yes...I think I can speak from experience on this a bit...and hands down Walmart wins on most points...I know they have gotten a lot of bad publicity in the past...but what I have experienced so far is this...they care about the employee, they have technology far in advance of Target, they have many ecological working plans...hybrid trucks, for every store they buy land for they also buy land that becomes protected, they recycle and not just cardboard, one of their goals is to become totally green!...on a more personal level...as a cashier you can have water at your lane! you get hour lunches if you are working 8 hours! the downside? alot of their benefits don't kick in for a year....Targets kick in after 90 days for full time and after 1000 hours for everyone else...I found out I am one of the higher paid cashiers! I might just like this company more than I thought! And everyone is so genuine! there is none of the fake crap I saw overtaking Target in the past few years...they have a very interesting abscence policy...3 days in a row actually only counts as one abscence! With my migraines this is refreshing...not that I plan on being absent at all...but it is good to know! And you don't call in to the store...you call an 800 number! No dealing with a managers attitude on the phone! Over 6000 stores! 1.8 million employees! Wow! Yes...I think they win over Target!

Target is finally coming to my home town. They have announced plans but haven't selected a site yet.

Some people seem excited....I'm skeptical.

As far as selection I choose Target over Walmart any day....Walmart is cheap on groceries and electronics...but...well I still choose Target..at least to shop at.
Toys are incredible... be glad ya got one coming SD...

Target carries some high quality merchandise no doubt about it...and you will pay a higher price...I haven't really had a chance to look at a whole lot of things Walmart carries but I do find their prices alot easier on my budget than Targets as far as home decor and stuff...commodities and groceries are about the same as far as prices go...I used to think of Walmart as unorganized and dirty...but with the new stores this has changed!

I much prefer shopping at Target over Walmart.  The merchandise is nicer, store is cleaner (looking at least).  Walmart is cheaper though, no doubt.

Agreed on the China shyte...I'd pay a bit more for American made and if no made in the USA is available, I may pass entirely. Here Walmart is about the only game in town...and it's not even in town...lol. I'd go shop there to flirt with Chemy though.

The Walmart you work at Chemy is a very clean one. Great Bend is a bit less so and the one in Dodge is a toilet. I usually shop Dillons for groceries but Walmart has a couple things Dillons don't carry so I get them there.

Glad you're liking it as much as you do.

Asda is owned by Walmart so when reading the propaganda on this site substitute "Asda" with "Walmart".
Larkhall is a little town which gets along very nicely thankyou with its two existing medium sized supermarkets. Larkhall is not a huge centre of population but Asda/Walmart think it would be a great idea to build a big store here just like they have done in Hamilton (3 miles away) and Motherwell (5 miles)and Blantyre (7 miles).
I certainly don't want a huge monolithic commercial entity coming to my town and killing off local stores like they have done elswhere in the surrounding area.

in the wal mart here in
canada where i work
its wierstostuff

the employees all seem
well and happy
wal mart never fires anyone
they laterally transfer you

the employeed overturn is
very high though
cause of the conditions
the employees have to work
in

for instance, i work in the deli,
every night if i had to close, like
tonight, i have to wash everything

from knives to the chicken cooker

to the chicken coop

and then at the end of it a manager
has to come and approve it

now tell me what other jobs is there
where an employee has to wash like this?

the cashiers are expected to stand for their
8 hr shifts, sure then get two fifteens and one
hour lunch, all employees have to stand

the guys unloading the trucks are just everyday
kids working after school to make some money
they are not trained like they should be

as a matter of fact, if you took a sensus here,
the only training one gets is from word of mouth
from an employee who has been there longer
then you

its not a great place........the pay isnt too bad,
and its after 9 months you can get benefits

they just lack in a few areas......but i will say this

before you can assume your job, you get computer
CBLS, a crash course on what to do in case
of a chemical spill, or harrassment, and such

you have to pass these before they will hire you

for the most part, the products are chinese, however,
they do try to import american made products and
all of our deli meats and cheeses are local

as is the produce...........i have noticed too, that a lot
of stuff is from europe... i.e. dinnerware, flatware,
shoes

I totally dig WalMarts and for me, it's all about the savings! Targets is just too high end for me even when I was doing ok financially. I never found any savings in this place. I like WalMarts because so far *knocking on wood* I've always received good customer service and good prices. I hear so much about WalMarts being a good employer and my mother is even thinking about going to work there even though she's retired now. She feels like she has too much time on her hand and when she went online to check out the employee benefits she was really impressed. The Walmarts I've been to always look clean and tidy although it does seem that parents in this store tend to let their children go crazy in there, but this can happen anywhere and it has nothing to do w/the store, but rather the parents and how they are raising their children.
