Honey moon will soon be over..Obama will have to start taking over and trying to run a house and senate that sometimes takes on an agenda of their own....He gets to clean house and buy a new puppy for the children...They all compare him and his wife to the Kennedys..........(media)...

What I cant figure out is............IF race isnt an issue...IF its not a black and white thing...IF its all about the need for change....why? is it constantly being pointed out that we have our first BLACK president...isnt he american first and foremost...I dont get it sometimes...I really thought he was actually half black and half white..
On the other hand...I think he has a huge following around the world and people have high high expectations...I wish  him luck ...
NOW...most important........what kinda dog ya think he should get for the kids?? I pick a labrador...

I had mentioned this point a while ago about black ppl who kept on mentioning the fact he was black and almost made it sound like he was ONLY for them. Sad thing, but some ppl are only viewing his race and not the fact, he's our President and for all of us to serve. I'm very glad to have him in office, but I surely hope they let the race factor die down now already. Of course, there was a time that this may never have happened and it's all fine and dandy to recognize this point, but let it go already. AND YES... HE IS HALF WHITE AND NOT EXCLUSIVELY BLACK! LOL!

Your grandson Jess, is absolutely a beautiful baby and no offense to anyone, but why is that so many damn bi-racial babies are so gorgeous??? LOL! THIS ISN'T TO SAY THAT CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT MIXED AREN'T BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AS WELL, but jeesh you mix races and chances are you're going to get a unique looking child. My granndaughter has what appears to be bluish gray eyes and hardly doubt had her mother not been caucasion she would've had just plain ol' brown eyes like her papa. Heehee. I'm jealous! LOL!

Ohhh and by the way, the press is saying the Obama family will be adopting a pup from a shelter, which I think is very nice. I mean these ppl could have went all out and bought any dog they wanted, but yet they're trying to rescue an animal who needs a loving home. Cool beans!

I think it's a huge major big deal that he's black.

HUGE

I can't even imagine what it means to black people to know that the people have elevated one of theirs to the highest position of power over all american ppl -- and of influence over the world!  And this in a country where little more than a generation ago they were still fighting for basic freedoms and rights.

Were we asked last year what we thought about the chances of having a black president any time in the near future, I'm sure we ALL would have said... "yeah right - as IF!!!!"     Not because we didn't think it a good idea - but because the USA just wasn't wired to accept it.

All that's changed.     All of it.

Its HUGE.

If I may give my opinion on this, I agree with Monty. It's not a minor detail that he's black or half black. In fact, being half black must have been more trouble to him. Not white, not totally black. Another big issue is his name. I have heard many complaints from people in the USA about him just for his name. They thought he was a terrorist. His color or name doesn't make him a good or bad person, or a good or bad president. Every person is unique, and we are all hoping for the best. Good luck

I was very turned off by the fact that a great number of people were giving him their vote only because he's black. I'm glad more voters turned out for this election. I only wish they were more informed and not just trying to elect a black man, any black man, to the white house.

I hope he does well because a lot is riding on this Presidency.

Yes, I agree on that. I can understand the desire of the black folks to have a black prez but to do it just for that is just wrong...and for anyone to do it just for that reason.

But then by that logic, if Hilary had got in it would have been because all the women just wanted a woman in there.   Right?

More than just black people voted for Obama - and I like to think that most people voted for more reasons than the fact that he's black.

I don't know much about politics, but judging from the positive reactions of leaders and politicians the world over - citing reasons other than his colour - I'm kind of optimistic about this one.

I don't think that just any black man could have won the office of President.  I'm sure some voted for him only because of his race...I'm equally sure some refused to vote for him for the same reason.
Voter turn out was record breaking.  Those new voters have gotten their feet wet now and have shown interest, for whatever reason, and that opens the door for them to learn more...baby steps.
I agree with Monty also...it is huge for a country with our history.  It shows great growth and should be acknowledged and appreciated at every opportunity.  We must keep in mind that, regardless of our own views, a large portion of our country is still extremely prejudiced.  It would be naive to expect anything else at this point...in my opinion.
We have a Black President...that's a big deal.  Hell, the Voting Rights Act still has to be renewed every twenty years or so to assure minorities get a fair opportunity to vote.  Equality still isn't here...so a Black President is a huge step.

I'm sure many voted for Obama just because of race...be it that they think such a radical change will bring radical change, that it'd be the PC thing to do and directly because of his color. I also believe more voted for him for who he is and the hope he brings. Many women would have voted for Hillary just because she's a woman as well....and many voted for McC just because he's white. They don't agree with him but as Anna pointed out, discrimination is alive and well here. There is even a bumper sticker on vehicles that says "Keep Our White House White"...that tells me McC got a lot of votes for his skin color.
I didn't say all black people voted for him just because he's black and that wasn't the intent of my statement...but I can understand the reasoning for those who did for that reason..just as I would for the women who'd vote Hillary just because she's a woman...well..sort of.

I too have great hope for this prez and do wish him all the best.

 Hi sis...good to see you.

Those are excellent points you bring to the table Monty! I just wish those ppl who I know are screaming out he's black, he's black are in it for all the wrong reasons and not because of his dedication to this country. However, there are many, like myself who really appreciate the likes of this man. I've recvd several disturbing text messages from various ppl making fun out of the fact he's now President Elect and I've texted alot of them back not to text me w/bullshit like this! It's ignorant and it's not funny!

Great points here. I especially like hearing the from those that arent in this country! Their observances to me, are worth much!
And yes monty, theres alot of women that wanted hillary in office just because she is a woman.
I dont agree, but its still an ingredient.

The way I see it you were given two real choices:   Vote for things to pretty much stay their course, or vote for things to change.   The people voted for change.

It's scary and worrisome and exciting and hopeful all at the same time.    There's really nothing any of us can do but wait and see....

I hadn't realized I was so scared and despairing over the Bush administration, until I got up on the 5th, read about President Elect Obama's win & immediately felt a glowing sense of relief and calm:  I believe that even if he does absolutely nothing for what seems a long time, that the world's new positive spin over US and this, will see us all through until real change can sink it's talons into this over tired situation...

...in the meantime, Side & I have plotted to be ready with a tight ship for waiting out the potential hard times between now and a rally.
