Very pleased to go over this again.   Any time.

Tabernac is basically a tabernacle in a church.   Nothing so shocking right?

but.....

All really bad swearwords in french are blasphemous - anything to do with the church:

Tabernac - which you now already know
Calisse  (slum spelling) - the Chalice
Hostie - the Host
Maudit - Damned
Christ -  duh!

etc., etc.

Tabernouche is what ppl will say instead of the way worse Tabernac --  the equivalent of Cripes instead of Christ, or Shoot instead of Shit...

Tabernac can be used in many ways....

Ce twinkie est bon en tabernac
This twinkie is tabernacally good

Hey!  Tabernac!!!  Qu'est ce que tu fait avec mon twinkie
Hey! Tabernacle (or "shit", or whatever)!!!   What are you doing with my twinkie?

Redonne-moi mon twinkie, mon Hostie de Calisse de Tabernac!!
Give me back my twinkie you little host of a chalice of a tabernacle!!!

So basically it's just a godly word gone bad.  9,999,999 times out of 10,000,000.

English uses bodily functions, French uses blasphemy.

(love these questions the most, btw!)

If I can help any more, just ask.
