I just wanted to get your feelings on whether I'm just being one of those over-protective mothers or whether you'd be a bit wary.

Tim turned 18 six weeks ago. As you all know he's my only boy, and we are really close. A couple of months ago, he spent a couple of weekends at his older sister's place (Emma who lives in Hastings)
After the second weekend, he rang me and told me that one of her friends (who is 24) had spent a lot of time flirting and ....... well .......flattering and he'd slept with her.

She's now been ringing him during the week and picking him up after school, he's spent a couple of nights with her and he told me on Thursday that it's getting serious.
He ended his last relationship because his g/f was talking commitment and he wasn't ready to settle down to a long-term relationship.

I did say that I wasn't sure whether he should be getting into something permanent at this time, but as he pointed out, I was married to Dick at 17

Would you worry????

Well...... 5 years isn't so bad.  You're what?  20ish.  At 15 then 5 or more years is bad.   But by 18/19 it's whittled down - or up in this case.

I'm trying to think why she wouldn't meet cyber auntie approval......

  • She's Minnie Elder?
  • She has 5 biological children already?
  • She beats you?
  • She maims small animals?
  • She thinks suicide bombers look cool?

I've run out of ideas........

Sorry Ash - I get her name muddled up all the time - must be because the little P addled freak doesn't inspire any respect from me at all so I don't bother keeping her name straight - Pantha guessed right about who I meant.

As for you young man - as the answer was no/nope to all my really important issues then I'm not going to throw any tantrum..... probably.

When I started going out with Kirk I was 28 and he was 19.  We were only casual and knew it wouldnt work cos of the age difference, 22 years and 2 kids later and we are happier than most.  Numbers dont make a difference, attitudes do.  We had quite a bit of opposition back then too, people are much more easygoing about age diferences now than they were then.

I'm with Heather.  More or less the same age differences here and my 'ToyBoy Fling' has lasted 18 years and 3 kids.

Yes, I was 16 years older and it never caused any difficulties- a few raised eyebrows, though.
