Black Widow vs. Brown Recluse Slideshow

(HealthDay News)—Dealing with a natural or man-made disaster, inclement weather, or similar crisis situation can be easier if you prepare an emergency kit.

Be sure to include these essentials, advises the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons:

  • A first aid kit.

  • A flashlight, small radio and batteries.

  • A whistle, used to signal others.

  • Duct tape, waterproof matches and plastic sheeting.

  • Toilet paper.

  • Blankets.

  • A pair of sturdy shoes.

  • Enough water and non-perishable food to last three days or longer
