Any of you guys like scary movies or horror?  I'm a big fan of that genre (although I'm not really into the slice-and-dice.  I like substance).  Even if you're not a fan, are there any scary movies that really got to you?

I had a feeling The Exorcist would pop up here a lot!  It's on my fave list, too.  I'm also a sucker for The Evil Dead trilogy and I'm a big Bruce Campbell fan.  If anyone else is, there's a new one of dvd (that I'll be getting via mail very soon) called Bubba Ho-Tep.  Brace yourselves (lol!) - in it Campbell plays Elvis, who had switched himself with an impersonator and it was actually the fake Elvis that died.  Now, Elvis is in a rest home being terrorized by an Egyptian mummy who prefers cowboy clothes.  Elvis and Ossie Davis, who thinks he's JFK, are the two who battle the soul-sucking mummy.  It's horror, comedy, and from what others have told me, it's a good drama, too.  Go figure!

Speaking of Nightmare on Elm Street, I can remember seeing it in the theatres and thinking how great it was to have a character actually create a well-thought out plan to fight back.  Loved that one!  And after seeing Aliens, I knew horror would get more interesting with the action element added.  I love that kind, like Deep Rising with Treat Williams and Famke Jansen.

Bubba ho tep??
OMG!...thats sounds too wild...i'll look 4 that one~  Always liked the Evil dead.
I liked Deep rising too,,,(it was pretty cheesy),,,lol.
I think the suspence is better than the ultimate gore fest~
One movie that freaked me out,,,"When a stranger calls",,,with carol Kane.
I know they made a sequel, that one was weird!

OK,,speaking of Older  movies,,,Name this one~~~starring Lauren tewes(love boat),,she lives in a high rise,,her sister is blind. she(lauren) spy's on a would be killer from her window. Killer SEE's her & is gonna get her!

Since The Exorcist has been mentioned...there's a new Exorcist film coming out soon...

Apparently, they created a second trailer to be shown on TV...but they were told  it couldn'tbe used because it was too scary to be on television.

That makes me perk up and take note, I'll tell you that.

Jim

Eyes of a Stranger is the title of the movie you're referring to, Sue.

I'm not a big fan of the genre, but I do enjoy the flicks that mix in humor with the gore, ie: the evil dead series, and the Nightmare on Elm street's. One movie that did scare the crap out of me was The Ring. Here's how bad that one scared me...

I work in a chemical plant, that is spread out in 2 buildings. We operate from 6 in the morning until 11 at night. As the second shift supervisor, it's my responsibility to shut down all the processes at the end of the night. Well, building "b" is devoid of people after 6 pm, so I'm alone in there when I shut down. After checking reactors, turning on cooling water, and locking up, I turn out the lights, then walk down a long hallway to the outside, and down a path to building "a". After seeing the Ring, every sound I heard as I walked that hallway, was that freaky little girl, shuffling down the hall after me. I was afraid to turn around and look, and RAN out the door and across the path, so she wouldn't get me. This went on for about 2 weeks, I kid you not.

Hard to believe!

John

I remember that one, Sue!

And John, don't feel bad.  Many moons ago I decided to turn all the lights out and watch The Haunting (the original black and white).  I was fine until the scene where the girls are in their room and there's loud banging coming from outside - it just scared me so much I had to turn the lights on and stop the movie!!  And that was an old film! lol

The Ring was a scary one....Yikes that little girl was creepy.

Freddy Krueger in The Nightmare on Elm Street kept me up the night I watched it. Jason in Friday the 13th was not good because I vactioned near a Crystal Lake in New Hampshire....talk about hear noises. Halloween & Friday the 13th have the most memorable music that when you hear it the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

I was young when Poltergeist came out and that one made me sleep on my mothers floor with the dog for a week so I wouldn't be alone. My brother still to this day will do the Jaws music if we are near water...always makes you look over your shoulder.

I do also like the Scream Trilogy. The Sixth Sense was a great one for keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Does anybody remember the one with the babysitter who was answering the phone.... the guy on the phone would say "Have you checked the children?"

Then they realize the call is coming from in the house???
Anybody remember the name of that one. That one scared me BIG TIME.

Haven't seen it, but I will as soon as it's out on video.
What I really want to see is Resident Evil Apocalypse.......looks so good to me!  I loved the first one and have played the games over and over again.  I love zombie movies, and my favorite is called Shock Waves with Peter Cushing and Brooke Adams.  People stranded on an island with underwater SS Nazi zombies.  Yes, strange!! lol  But very creepy!!
