Hiya!  It seems as though I have clients becoming pregnant left-and-right (It has nothing to do with me, I swear) and many of them are wanting color, but are afraid of the it.  Do any of you know of a great vegetable dye without peroxide that provides lovely color and covers grey effectively?

Thanks! kb

At the show coming up In August here in Orlando Florida they came out with a color system called PHORMULATE... I would check it out on www.behindthechair.com
But anyhow.. I also saw it advertised in lauch pad and is expected to be THE BEST NO AMMONIA NO PROXIDES COLOR.. From what I understand it can also actually lift levels too... I am not sure of all the details.. But it worth checking into..
And
You can tell your preg mommies...
That me being I had 3 kids.. and use to argue with my dr all the time cause my color was changing all the time... he would get on to me being afraid it would harm the baby... ACTUALLY When their outta the first trimester their safe!!!! It is within the first trimester that the color and chemical can get into the blood stream through the scalp.. also a OPTION... They just can't have ON THE SCALP COLOR AT THAT TIME... So like Hi lites and low lights would be fine... AS LONG AS NOTHING IS ON THE SCALP!!!
Just a option..
People that have been preg first time around I usually encourage them to wait until near the end of the 2nd trimester only cause our bodies go through so much changes when were preg that could affect how the color comes out.. otherwise... if it 2nd or 3rd time around they should be good to go!!!
~~~ Hugs ~~
I hope this has helped ya some how!!!
~hugs~ Leslie
I just thought that I would throw in the idea of Elumen by Goldwell its an awesome prodouct with no amonia.  Has great grey coverage if mixed correctly, and I've found it to be a great product for people that have sensitive skin and or allergies.  However it has great staining effects so I wouldn't recommend using it on someone that likes to change their hair colour often.  And it stains the skin quite a bit.   But it is by far my favorite product.
After doing much research about alternative hair color products, I came across a few you may be interested in!
Herbe Color, based out of Italy is the oldest color company dedicated to being environmentally safe and safe for us and our clients. Marie is a lovely woman and can answer all questions and send you a brochure about the products. You can reach Marie at #1.866.966.0366.
The color leaves the hair in impeccable condition, and has no smell when processing!!! I highly reccomend this line.
Their is another lline called Colour Herbe that has a technical manual you can download to read about vegetable based products and how they work. They also have Clay Based Lightners (instead of Bleach) you can try as well. the Baliage technique works well with there products:)....Have fun!!!
It has been my expeirence (HAVING 3 KIDS OF MY OWN) AND Also arguing with my OB That color does not hurt the baby ....
That ANY COLOR SERVICE IS OK TO do on pregnant women if it is off the scalp (such as full head foil hilights) but on scalp color any type of professional semi permanant color can be used at anytime... such as color sync (Matrix) or SHADES EQ (REDKEN) ECT. Anyhow... Me personally if they have been preg more than once I will preform a on scalp one process color with ammonia after the first trimester... and first time moms.. are the ones I am more leary of preforming color or any chemical services on at any time during their pregnancy..
But in any case.. My doctor has told me in the first trimester it is dangerous cause he states that "When color is applied to the scalp it absorbs into the skin and could cause development damage within the first trimester " He says after the first trimester any mom should be clear to to any chemical service but like I said I question that in first time moms... If they have been pregnant more than once... There body has already gone through those types of hormonal changes and chances are that it would'nt affect the hair...
personally I have never encountered any issues with color treating pregnant moms.
First: Peroxide is simply H2O2, water having an extra oxygen moleacule used a devoloper to oxidize color and will not harm a fetus.
Second: Most OB's get concerned with the amount of amonia in haircolor.
35 years ago a lot of haircolor companys had up to 20% ammonia in their color to swell the hair shaft and allow penatration of the color into the hair. They are a lot safer and gentler now.
It's always a good idea to know how much (what percentage) of ammonia is in the color.
Call your manafacturer they'll send you the spec's on their product if you ask.
Any color line with less than 3% is not seen as harmful.
If they are nervous then switch them to a 0% amonia demi color like redkin shades EQ
Remember:
1 ciggerate has more toxins ingested into your body than most every color service with some minor exceptions.
I hope that helps...
