I was wondering if any one has used this company Adefx for advertising. What they do is they set up a brochure advertising $300.00 worth of free services for $50.00. What they do is they have people canvasing the area where the salon is located and they approach people asking them would like to buy this brochure containing all these services for free it only cost $50.00. The problem that I'm running into is, this is literarly free services (haircut/style, accent highlights 4 foils). Most of these people are coupon shoppers here to receive thier free service and some treat you like crap others are nice. But what is killing me is that these services can not be deducted off your taxes. You can't claim as a loss becasue there was no income. It's hard when you do these services because I guess that they assume the salon got the money because half the time they don't tip you. If I get two cleints out of all this I will be doing good. any one have a suggestion to help me get through this.

The Day Spa I used to work at we did this.  And I will never do it again.  These people whom buy these are just looking for a "freebe"  we maybe had a 2% return of these "clients".  What we did was just made the appointment for these cert's on our slowest day appointments only.  The only thing you can do now is ride it out unfortunately.  Jenn

It took me a little while to understand what you were saying, but it sounds to me like this brochure is for businesses that are either just starting out, or not doing so well. It's great when you have a new stylist on board, and want to drum up business for her, and yes, on your slowest day, and by appointment. The 2% clientel you will retain would be fine for the new stylist, especially if your salon usually doesn't generate many walk-ins. For a busy, walk-in based salon, this would be a big mistake. Coupon shoppers tend to go where the price is right at the time.

I have been in this business my whole life (20 yrs), both of my parrents do hair and my family has always had their own business.....we have found if you go after a coupon clientele that is what you will have. They will only come back if you have something free or discounted and they never tip. That is not the clients that you want to have. They will not appreciate what you have to offer. Your best form of advertising is word of mouth and the phone book. Get involved in the community in giving your services away for a good cause.
Hope that helps....

I own a salon in Newport Beach and have used ADEFX for the last 4 years.  I have tried traditional methods of advertising in the past but nothing has worked to bring in the volume of good clientel that ADEFX has braught me.  Over the years ADEFX and their sales reps have braught me thousands of clients.  Yes some are coupon customers but most are not if the campaigne is worked properly.  Its my opportunity and my staffs opportunity to wow them with our services.  Think about it.....if they get great service, are treated well and are close by, why wouldnt they return?  If you are having trouble maybe you need to re-evaluate the way the people are being treated when they come into your salon.  Are they treated as though they baught a coupon or are they treated as they are a life long potential client?

I would say it sounds like a scam. Someone else is making money off your work. The return will most likely be small. My advise would be to get involved in charity work in your community. You could also join your citys chamber of commerce. The fee is a small yearly fee. They advertise for you and you go to alot of mixers and community events. It is a good way to not only get your name and salon out there, but meet other buisness owners.

MY ADVICE TO YOU IS TO DO YOUR REASERCH FIRST BEFORE CALLING A COMPANY A SCAM.  THIS COMAPNY HAS BRAUGHT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TO MY SALON.  UNLESS YOUR WILLING TO GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GO FIND YOUR OWN PEOPLE, THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO BRING IN THE VOLUME THAT ADEFX HAS BRAUGHT ME.  THEY MAKE MONEY, YA OF COURSE, THATS WHAT EVERY BUSINESS IS IN BUSINESS FOR.  THEY CHARGE YOU NOTHING, DO ALL THE LEG WORK AND PAY FOR ALL PRINTING, WHY SHOULDNT THEY MAKE MONEY.  YOU SHOULD REALLY TRY IT FIRST BEFORE YOU MAKE COMMENETS.

I have obviously offended you, and I am sorry. I work with poeple who have had a bad expierience with a similar company. I feel that building and maintaining a substantial clientele requires alot of hard work, skill, and networking. Also most stylists start off slow. I am glad to hear that you have had great success with this company, and I wish you continued success. We simply have different ideas.
