I have done have for 14 yrs, I am 33 yrs old. I have regular sets on friday & saturday. I have a total of 10. I really like most of them, but 2 or 3 are really getting to me. One a have to really wait on hand & foot. I feel like a nurses aide rather than a hair dresser. Want can I do???

I do the majority of the senior shampoo set ladies in my salon...mainly because I'm the oldest stylist.  For the most part I don't mind it but it can get boring because they never want to change anything about their style.  Some of them are rather grumpy also and two of my clients have alzheimers so that makes it interesting.  You never know what kind of story they will tell you.  Keeps it exciting....lol

That is so hard. I have so many ederly women that I do colors on who have no idea how current techniqes and products work. They ask me a million questions, doubt my ability, because to them, I'm young. During the whole process they're asking irrelevant questions. Sometimes, I feel like I could punch them in the face!!!!!!! Ha ha just kidding. Of course I wouldn't do that but wouldn't it feel good if you could? I just think of my grandma. I love her so much and as irritating as she can be I would want others to treat her like gold. So I nod and smile, bring them coffee and basically kiss a** up one side and down the other. Then when I'm out and about I give my business card to anyone and everyone under the age of 60. If those younger clients refer a friend they get a "50% off your next service" voucher. If the elderly ladies refer a friend they get a thank-you.

I guess I'm trying to understand what you mean by overweight or unattractive.  I know what you mean about being bald, because you have to figure out exactly what to do.  Anyway, what is overweight or unattractive to you?  Sometimes, it's all in our perception of things.  Hopefully everything works out for you!

Thanks for the info! Most of my customers are not seniors, but the weekends I have them.It hard to book foils and other timely color service with roller sets. Also to get a weekend of & fit them in somewhere elses. I will not take anymore if possible. I have a funny story about what happend in the salon about a month ago with one of our sr's(not my client). Our salon is small so  you can hear alot of what going on from chair to chair. This sr is talk about another salon & how she does hair and only takes app.& ect. She says to her stylist" Ya & all she does is roll-up (curling iron) & blow-jobs(blow dryer). The stylist ask her to repet what she said just to make sure all of us her it. So, now that's a big joke. So, seniors can be entertaining!

I love my seniors...But I have this one who is new to my chair she used to go to this other lady who retired and her clients were split amongst us at the shop.Well I just can't do what Sharon does.So help me I put her color on and she freaked out..This isn't the same color sharon used..I showed her her card with Sharon's handwriting  saying this is your formula. No this looks Black you are making my hair black Me and my coworker tryed to explain the process of color oxidizing. After I washed it out and dryed it and it was the same color instead of saying she was sorry she gave me a hard time about something else.I told her I had enough I have been doing hair for 20 years and I know what I'm doing. She said do you want me to go to someone else.I said yes.She said she was sorry and asked if I would give her another chance. You think it would end there but the next week she sat in my chair and said this week can you make the top pretty like Sharon did..AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Aight.. I have to agree with Amy.. broaden your horizon.. although The elder ladies I have I enjoy as I don't have to many of them.. But I see your point.. The best thing to do is.. Maybe.. just let it go..
I mean you want them to be happy ...
But just keep  your guard up.. Don't let them get away with any freebee's or discounts or what ever.. I have found when you start being to nice to the clients and hook them up.. They take advantage.. Just know your boundires..

IN REGUARDANCE TO KYZZER...
LOL U DID RIGHT.. I would of asked her to go to someone else too... But.. Ya know what with clients like that .. When they same like their being extremely difficult.. I SMILE HARDER!!! , AND ACT OVERLY CONFINDENT!!! Usually it mentally sikes them out that YOU DID A FANTASTIC JOB...
Like for ex. when she said "CAN U MAKE THE TOP PURDY LIKE SHARON" You should of said "ABSOULUTELY I CAN.. I AM HERE TO PLEASE U"
LOL That what I do it usually works.. lol
THEY MAKE ME TALK ALL THE CHALLENGING CLIENTS IN MY SHOP.. Some my co workers say they don't got the patients to handle  people testing them like that...
I JUST ACT AS THOUGH TO THEM OVERLY ARROGANT ABOUT YOUR WORK !!!

I use to do more roller set about eight year ago but for a long time now i never had to do them. But lately i have had to do two or three of them. I am the only one at work that the front desks dump them on. Mostly the elderly gals are funny. but it is always cost me money because you just can't charge the same amout for the time it takes to do them.

How long does it take you to do a roller set.

If you can't handle a client ..just think of them naked...lol ...Honest communication is the answers..Nothing wrong in saying so sorry i don't do that kind of work ..but let be show you what i can do ..if you like it great ..if not feel free to try another stylist...or recommend a salon or stylist that you think does that kinda work..works for me and the key is to greet them friendly evey time they return weather you or another stylist works on them.. When i first started  in the bussiness 1960...thats all i ever did was roller sets.. Young and old  then the hot comb came out  then the blower.. i had to train my clientel to wash and blow thier own hair as i told them to book for color and a cut  only every 4 weeks stopping the weekly visit..   So today i only use hot rolls to style if needed.. oh and i don't give out standing appointments.. if you do rollor sets try not to give out standing appointments this way you have room for new clients and services..freeing yourself of the bordom of the same old same old each week...Drew

I have to agree with not giving standing appointments. It may help with knowing what you're going to make week to week, but no room for increase.
