Ok so today I had this client I did hi-lites on.. she wanted a partial and wanted it really suttle.. SHE STRESSED TO ME ABOUT 50 TIMES SHE DID'NT WANT CHUNCKY OR BOLD BLONDE HI-LITES... That she wanted it to look natral like she went to the beach and it lightened her hair.

Well so I proceed with the service.. She gets to telling me that she always comes to our shop HAIR CUTTERY To only get her hair cut.. (WE'RE A AVARAGE PRICED SALON , Our particular Hair Cuttery is what they call a A SALON Cause our prices are a tad higher than the other Hair Cuttery's which normally means these "A SALONS" Are located in really rich upity areas) Anyhow.. she tells me she NEVER GETS ANY CHEMICAL SERVICES IN OUR SALON**sighs** She goes up the street to this private salon FOR HER HI-LITES... LOL She was telling me she normally pays like 130$(FOR ONLY A PARTIAL NOT EVEN A FULL HEAD AND THIS LADY HER HAIR IS ABOVE HER SHOULDERS!!!!!)
Anyhow.. as I started doing the hi-lites .. THEIR WAS ALREADY DOUBT IN HER TONE... She says "WHY ARE YOU STARTING THEM THERE? , HOW COME SO MANY FOILS? I DON'T REMEMBER MY OTHER GIRL HAVING THEM THIS HEAVY"
OMG!!!! WTH... I wanted to kick her out of my chair and be like "LOOK LADY LET ME GET THESE FOILS OFF UR HEAD AND YOU RUN AND GO PAY UR LIL 130$ TO UR GIRL THAT DOES UR HILITES" OMFG.. Don't start with me.. I HATE IT WHEN CLIENT THINK THEY KNOW IT ALL ABOUT OUR TECHNICAL PART OF WHAT WE DO.. THAT IS SOMETHING I CAN BARELY TOLERATE...
WE DID GO AND GET DEGREES AND ARE LICENSED PROFESSIONALS  YA KNOW???

I mean DO THE STUPID FREAKIN CLIENTS WHINE TO THEIR DOCTOR AND SAY "WHY DO I HAVE TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION , OR WHY ARE YOU DOING THE PROCEDURE TO TREAT MY ILLNESS LIKE THIS ???" HELL NO!!!! DAMMIT.. I THINK WE ARE RIGHT UP THEIR NEXT TO DOCTORS AND OUR PROFESSION SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH!!!!

OMG.. I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!!
I SWARE IF THAT LADY COMES BACK I AM NOT DEALING WITH HER OR AM I GONNA REDO HER HILITES...
I spent like 2 hrs ON THIS LADY WITH HER DANG PARTIAL HILITES AND BLOWDRY... 50$ WHAT I CHARGED HER.. HOW BOUT SHE TIPS ME A 5 DOLLAR BILL!!!! WTF ... A AVARAGE TIP FOR A CHEMICAL IS 10$ AROUND HERE NE WAYS.. SO LOL SCREW HER!!!

OK OK SHOOT.. SORRY... I HATE BEING DISCREDITIED.. AND I KNOW SURE AS HELL I DID A KICK ASS JOB ON HER HAIR!!!!!

Oh Leslie...you're reading my mind!!! I agree with you that we are somewhat like doctors, and wish we were treated as such. Remember the conversation we were having how our training is too short? I believe that our training should be more extensive in school...and really be like doctors, and paid as much too! It's really too bad that all the bad experiences people had, with corps in particular would lead clients to question us. Have you ever noticed they don't ask new stylists to bring in a model before they hire them? It's a real shame that seasoned talented stylists have to suffer for inexperienced stylist's mistakes! I wish certain clients would realize that there are many stylists who work at these salons that could be just as good if not better than any place else. BTW...you should have charged that uppity woman $150!!! I feel for you.

Hey Amy...
At Hair Cuttery they always do a technical interview... too.. TO MAKE SURE THE STYLIST IS SOMEONE GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO!!!

The do it too @ The REGIS HAIRSTYLIST Salons...
I know @ Super cuts, and smartstyle they don't though always...
I think also though it depends on the management and how desperate they are for STYLIST.. If they're real desprerate THEY DON'T CARE HOW THEY CUT AS LONG AS THEY CAN SERVICE PEOPLE AND GET THEM IN AND OUT...
WHICH I THINK IS A PITIFUL EXCUSE... I AGREE WITH YOU AND WE DID HAVE THAT CONVERSATION BEFORE..
I THINK ALSO OUR TRAINING ACROSS THE NATION SHOULD BE MORE EXTENSIVE!!! JUST LIKE DOCTORS!!! WOULD BE REALLY AWESOME IF WE GOT PAID AS SUCH TOO!!!!!

Hi girls,
I know that this proably won't be taken very well, but I just want to give a little prospective here. I believe what we do is important yes, but to compare us to doctors and saying that we should get paid as much is a little bit of a stretch for me. when cosmetology schools are 8 to 12 yrs long and the cost is over 100,000 dollars to go there , then we can be comparable. Just my opinion.

I think she was just kind of implying that you don't tell your doctor what to give you when your sick, nor do you tell your mechanic what's wrong with your car. I don't think our profession is life and death like a doctors is, but I agree that I don't question my doctor who went to school... and I don't appreciate when clients  question me as like Leslie's client did to her.

We're not comparable in the cost of our schooling or in the years it takes to accomplish being a doctor.... but we do have a serivce oreinted career in which we need to get things right all the time.

Thank you Jen, that is excactly what we're trying to say. What Leslie and I were having a private conversation about was that we both agree that our training is TOO SHORT! Not even a year goes by, and all of the sudden we're "licensed professionals". Well, it's just a shame that when we go out into the real world, and go into a salon  we have to throw out everything we learned. My school in particular, did not even teach color theory. So, as you can probably guess, I had to learn the hard way, with much embarressment. In all the years doctors go through medical school, they can pretty much pick up where they left off. We still have much to learn after we get our license. So, no wonder clients question us, which is what I added on during our chat. I actually understand the skeptisism. I just wish it weren't that way. Looking back now, I personally wouldn't mind a few extra manditory years in school before we can legally work. But, that's just MY opinion.

hmmm??? ONCE AGAIN.. I HAVE TO AGREE.. WITH AMY...
I agree with Jenn too.. That was kind of my point..
BUT AT THE OTHER END..
No our career is NOT QUIET LIFE AND DEATH... But to be it would be worth to fork out 100,000$ WORTH OF SCHOOLING AND BE TRAINED FOR A EXTENDED ABOUT OF TIME SUCH AS 6-8YRS...
Then we would'nt HAVE HAIR DRESSERS.. THAT GIVE PEOPLE TRAMATIC EXPEIRENCES.... It may not be life and death  but for some ladies.. VISITS TO THE SALON CAN MAKE OR BREAK THEM DEPENDING IF THEIR STYLIST LISTENS TO THEM OR NOT..AND FOLLOWS WHAT THEY DO..!!!
I understand what your saying... But honestly I think it would be worth the respect and for this nation this culture to demand more of us.. when it comes to training in our feild before we can WORK AND CALL OUR SELVES PROFESSIONALS!!!!
AGAIN THAT IS JUST ME...
LOL WE LIVE IN AMERICA CAUSE WE LUV FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!
No offense taken by all means.. totally understands the prospective attempted to be brought.. but lets be real... DO U LIKE TO BE QUESTIONED... If we were trained more intense like as they do in Europe.. WE PROBABLY WOULD'NT BE QUESTIONED LIKE WE ARE ALOT OF TIMES.

to be honest, I really don't mind being guestioned. I believe that it is a great oppourtunity to educate my client and build in them a confidence of my ablity, talent, and experiance, especially if they have had a bad experiance before. I just think we should look at those situations as oppourtunities and not offences.

Oh Lisa...

I agree with all ya said.. I ALWAYS TAKE TIME TO EDUCATE MY CLIENTS... AND TAKE OPPORTUNITIES TO SHOW THEM THERE ARE GREAT STYLIST LIKE US THAT LISTEN AND PROVIDE AWESOME EXPIERNCES IN THE SALON!!! How ever.. Don't act like UR NOT HUMAN AND YOU DON'T GET IRRIATED With situations like that.. We all get TICKED OFF sometimes or fustrated when clients have these type of reactions.. It is really about respect not being offended.. I was never offended as much as I was irritated.. If they gonna go on HOW SOMEONE ELSE DID THEIR HAIR Then they need to stop wasting my precious money and time... I DID EDUCATE HER COMPLETELY AND LET HER BE FULLY AWARE OF WHY I WAS DOING EVERYTHING THE WAY I WAS.. AND TELLING HER HOW IT WAS GONNA BENEFIT HER... It was quiet apparent she was just pissed cause "HER GIRL" Was'nt available..
Now... lol stop making comments like YOUR HOLIER THAN THOU.. AND ARE SO PERFECT... Like you have never once in ur entire career felt aggravated at some point or another with client situations...
BTW... SPEAKING OF BEING OFFENDED.. I HOPE UR NOT OFFENDED CAUSE I WAS NOT BY NE MEANS.. TRYING TO OFFEND YOU...
But you said it like no one gets fustrated and we're not supose to be..
Com'on now WE ARE ONLY HUMAN!!!!

If not that ok.. we are all entitled to our opinions right?

truly sorry!! please forgive me, i didn't mean to come accross that way. i do know what it's like to have a bad day at the salon, and believe me i've had my share of demanding and rude clients. i've been a stylist for 19 yrs and a salon owner for a few of those.
i wish you all the best and much success in your career.
