I am so discouraged from what I learned today. I work for a company that rents space and I asked the person in charge of fundraising events if we could have a space in front of the building to do haircuts for Clip for the Cure event we're holding at the end of September. Basically the space is taken, which is fine we'll do it in the salon, but she said that we couldn't even hold a bake sale because it's considered soliciting! There are other salons within this corporation that it has gone off without a snag, and it's not like we're profiting from it. For God's sakes we're completely volunteering our time on a busy Saturday with no compensation for this and for this place to have this type of ruling is rediculous. It's not the company I work for it's the company that we lease space off. Ugh. I don't know how much I can put in on what company that's why I didn't put who/where and whatnot. I'm sure most of you know, Amy and Leslie alike. Thanks for listening to me vent.
Marla

I do know what you're talking about, and I can't believe what I've read! Soliciting??? Well, if they're going to call that solicting, then they might as well call the salvation army at christmas time soliciting too! That's rediculous. How many times have they had cake sales for other causes in the front of the building, and then "solicited"  to everyone trying to get by? I almost want to say that whoever told you was mistaken, and needs to do more research into your request. God bless you for taking the bulls by the horn and trying, which is more than I could say for some people in charge of these types of events. I would go to a higher authority if I were you, you know where I mean.  Good luck to you, I hope you raise lots of money whatever happens!

The woman said she'd talk to the store manager. I already plan on doing that. It's just that it's inventory this week and he's so busy. Also my DM said she's gonna find out if other store in our area are having a similar problem or not..She's also going to contact corporate and go from there. Basically at this point I dont care if I have permission or not we're doing it inside the salon. We'll keep the baked goods in the backroom and just let the clients know that they're available.

Having the bake sale if all else fails is a good idea Marla, I thought of that myself today, and was going to suggest it. The company really doesn't mind where the donated funds come from, as long as they go towards the cause. We had a raffle once, and we sold pink bracelets last year. We did really well!

They said that they aren't getting the bracelets this year. They didn't have them ordered in time. I think maybe they got someone else new that didn't realize what was involved. The only reason I say that is if you do something every year wouldn't you know when to order them on time? Ok talk to you later

Well, I had to get back to this one. Was the situation ever resolved? We had ours today, and we were able to hold a bake sale. They were outside until it rained, and then brought it into the salon. My cheesecake brought in about $24.00 worth of it, about 2 out of the 4 I baked. That made me feel great! We also brought in the most money for the whole cause ever! Did you have yours yet or going to? Let us know.

We had the bake sale anyway and the drawing. It went well for our first time. Raised almost $350 and can't wait to do it again.

Good for you! We raised about as much as you did, and we also had drawings, one was a drawing for a prize of $100 worth of hair products, and the other one they had to guess the amount of M&Ms in a jar. It was definately alot of fun!
