Hey guys.. Sorry to stir up some drama.. but before I say what I wanna I WANT YOU TO KNOW NO MATTER WHAT UR RESPONSES.. I WON'T BE OFFENDED.. AFTER ALL THIS IS JUST "VENT IT HERE" But I really want to know what is in you guys mind that may act like this .. or what you think of our fellow beauty professionals that act like this...

THINK ABOUT IT...
Our titles and our trade is suposidly at the low end of the pole and as some say "Oh, It casue you were'nt smart, or good with ne thing else" Like we work in this industry as a "LAST RESORT"
So in some ppls eyes.. we are frowned upon...
Well how come.. think now!!!
that
MOST IN OUR INDUSTRY...
SEEM TO GET A JOY OUT OF OVER CHARGING CLIENTS!!!??? And USUALLY HAVE POOR POOR PEOPLE SKILLS AND ACT SOO UNPROFESSIONAL THAT IT IS A DISCRACE!!! ??? I Would go as far to say maybe close to 80% if not more of our profession acts like this...

Ok first off.. WHY IN THE HECK WOULD U DO HAIR.. KNOWING HOW PEOPLE ORRIENTED THE BUISNESS IS... IF YOU HATE WORKING WITH PPL..
IT MAKES IT LOOK SO BAD FOR THOSE OF US THAT REALLY DO LOVE IT!!!????
AND 2ND DID U GET INTO THIS FOR THE MONEY$$$ OR REALLY FOR THE LOVE WHAT WHAT UR DOING!!!
Casue let me tell you something $$$ is'nt everything.. and if you in it for the $$$ YOU GOT THE WRONG CAREER!!!!
I hate it that our industry is so full of hate and backstabbin!!!! HOW COME IS IT ALWAYS OUT FOR UR  SELF!!! AND JUST Not be TEAMPLAYERS.. And learn from one another.. and HOW COME SO MUCH PRIDE!!! Like no one can do as great of hair as you!!!! PLEASE I THINK WE ALL HAVE SPECIAL TALENTS THAT LIE WITHIN US IN OUR CAREERS...
Which reminds me..

IS THIS A CAREER TO U ? OR JUST A JOB???
Sorry I just tired. of soooooooooooooooooooooooooo  Many people in our industry making us look like FOOLS!!!! When we're actually extremely intellengent ppl... It is alot stero typed against us..
Like for example...

I ACTUALLY "LISTEN" To my cleints when they sit in my chair...  REALLY WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT GIVING THEM WHAT THEY WANT... U WON'T MAKE NO $$ THAT WAY.. JUST DOING WHAT U FEEL LIKE...
I know granted there are some mis communication.. But it is bad when about 40% of the clients get in my chair scared to death I am GONNA TAKE OFF 5 INCHES WHEN THEY ONLY TOLD ME A INCH!!!
WTH? Are u guys thinking when u do that? huh? lol
I am not by ne means saying I have'nt made a mistake.. But IT IS USUALLY A MISTAKE AND NOT ON PURPOSE... Some of us out there do this crap on purpose....??? WHY??? LOL

Aight lol Enough VENTING LOL Bout what I  think bout things I have seen across the board in my field that has not made me happy and quiet ashamed really... when ppl put me in this catogoery.... Cause I am really quiet the opposite of all I have said.. that is irratating ...

Well maybe at least this stired up ur thinking a lil and get some responses???

lol Can't wait to see what u all have to say about this????
~Hugs~

FYI- This WAS NOT AT ALL POSTED TO OFFEND NE ONE.. SO IF U ARE OFFENDED I APPOLOGIZE IN ADVANCED!!!!!

I was sort of discouraged to go into the business myself. My father insisted that I take the Civil Sevice test. My mother wanted me to be a housewife. Everyone tried to tell me that this career is not stable. I took that into consideration, and went for it anyway. I feel that you can't really advance that much just working a typical 9-5 job. You have to take a chance and follow your dream, otherwise you will regret never trying. You never know! I agree with those who said, how many people could say that they truly love their job? As stable as some careers could be, this is one of the most creative, and emotional satisfying!

Funny I have been and still am a stylist for 41 years, I have my own business, and I did try to retire once. I missed the art of styling I missed the people. So I am back at it. I once had to stand in front of a huge room of Rotary Men and explain what a stylist is. So I put sticky notes all over me and pulled them off one by one a stylist is a creator, one of the few professions that other people allow us to touch them, thus entering their inner space, I was a listner, I was and advisor, I was a fashion corridinator , colour corrdinator , team leader, motivational speaker to staff, I was a teacher, many illness were detected in the way the hair had changed, I was a couceler, I was not a speller as you see, by the end of the speach I won them over and they had never even thought about more than just a hair cut. as at the time I was in Rotary they had just allowed women to join, these were very high and mighty prfessions and men , when it was my time to move away the best was said to me sorry to see you go as you became one of the guys one of our brothers. What we put out there will come back ten fold. When I started at 16 if you were not good at school you quit and became a HAIR DRESSER  over the years once I respected my profession I made a goal never to become just a hair dresser I wanted the best for me and other peoples opinions would soon change and respect our profession as stylist. I will be cutting until I drop I keep myself current every year gaining more courses. I have also taught class or two. YOU ARE IN A GREAT PROFESSION..............Wendy

Our problem is that we don't have a problem.  We provide a service in the same way that anybody who has a renewable resource, like hair, trees, crops, has to do.  Basically, hair grows and we cut it.  But it goes much beyond that in the sense that we get to spend time with one person, have great conversations, and make them look and feel excellent.  There are people out there called "life coaches" who make enough money to buy new Jaguars every year.  I think we often provide the same service, but only for the price of a hair service.  Bargain.

On a different note, I am finishing up esthetician school right now with two great, young (20&21) women.  They can make excellent money immediately and should they wish, pay their ways through a university, buy a house, pay for their kids' educations, etc, all the while making people look and feel better while improving their skin.  Fabulous, no?

I have college degrees and am a librarian.  I love doing hair and skin services.  It is very rewarding and frankly I learn more from chatting with clients than I do working at the library.  Odd, that.

I know exactly what your talking about! i was an apprentice at a really nice salon when i got out of school! it was such a beautiful place but the people there were so stuck up their own butts, and most of the ones just starting out wouldnt put the time into perfecting their skills so that they could be paid like the "BIG DOGS" of the salon! Those people (the top of the salon) is what made me love what i do, but the people i trained with made me hate most of the people in my own feild! I never understood how someone could take such an awesome career like this and make it torture, I meen you get to make people feel good about themselves ALL DAY LONG!!! i once had a girl in my chair that had just lost her baby that was 2 and she had a crap load of health problems because of the environment she worked in, and her friend also lost her kid, and I dont remember everything, but she was a hot mess! and ya know what... I did a little make over for her. we colored her hair, gave her a fresh hair cut and I TOOK THE TIME TO LISTEN TO EVERYTHING SHE HAD TO SAY wether i wanted to or not~ she was smiling when she left! SMILING after all that she told me in her life was wrong, i was able to brighten her day with some color and a few snips!! i guess point me in the direction of another job that even comes close to that kind of feeling!

Fluffymonkey-You have grasped the excact concept of "money isn't everything"! Even if this business would never be the most lucrative, what keeps people like us interested would have to be everything you just explained. Thank you!

Fluffymonkey....the biggest compliment that I receive is when someone says "I love to come and see you because its not just about the hair...you make me feel better about myself". I try to boost peoples egos and make them feel better about themselves in a world that can be so cruel.

I guess the point we were trying to make is that we are not ONLY in it for the money. It's part of who we are, what makes us...us. Of course we like making money! I just can't understand it when I see otherwise good stylists leave the business without even trying to succeed. Or when 18-20 year old girls, come in and think they know everything, and are offended when they are offered help and advice. Thanks for your suggestion on the CD, I'm definately going to check it out. I think we will be learning alot from you!
