What's in her hair is a good question. What was done to it before? Also, what is her natural level? Is she on any medications? I agree, the pregnancy might have had something to do with it, there are hormone changes. You made a good suggestion with the Malibu treatment, she shouldn't have refused it. I'm assuming the G stands for green, which is a cool tone. You could have either used a warm formula such as gold for the ends, which sounds porous, or filled first. Of course using a non-ammoninated color, it sounds like she has major damage already. If she also refuses to trim her ends, then she is preventing you from fully helping her! I would tell her that you know what you're doing, and the only way that you can get on the road to making her hair healthy again (which may be a lengthy process), she is going to have to cooporate with you, or else there is really not much you can do for her.
