Miniature Fairy Garden

This delightful miniature fairy garden allows kids to have a garden of their own.

  1. Use a window box or container that can easily sit next to the window.
  2. Hot-glue broken twigs around the window box to create a fence (Parents may want to help with the hot glue gun.)
  3. Strip leaves from a long twine of fresh ivy (so it will be pliable) and weave the twine in and out of the sticks.
  4. Line the planter with plastic and fill with potting soil.
  5. Add an azalea or other plant that has been trained to look and grow like a tree. Another choice might be rosemary. Situate the "tree" directly in the soil in one corner of the garden.
  6. Add a china doll plant at the other end of the planter to balance the height.
  7. Plant dwarf mondo grass. Finish with moss, which resembles grass.
  8. Now add the accessories--miniature items that can be found at toy or craft stores--like a tiny watering can, animals or chair. Make a swing set from twigs and vines. Use rocks and barks for stepping stones.

Use all indoor plants for the garden. Make sure their sun and water needs are compatible, and look for various textures and height for interest. Water the plants regularly. Daily misting would be a fun responsibility for your child.

An azalea, mondo grass, Irish moss, baby tears, maidenhair fern and miniature toys and furniture create a fantasy miniature world in this tiny garden.

Small stones and a watering can, plus a swing set made from twigs and vines, are part of this miniature garden.
