Will you tell the story of how you and "Your Spirit" met?
I'll put this one in a separate post because it's long. Spirit and I actually wrote up the story in our own words and they were each read at our wedding reception. You'll have to ask him for his version. Here's mine:
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
The REAL Version
I don’t know why I was so nervous. I had known Travis on-line for a little over three months, but we had never met IRL (for all you Internet illiterates out there, IRL means In Real Life).
He was hesitant to agree to come meet me, so I bribed him with the promise of a home-cooked meal. I lose more friends that way! You think I’d learn! The night came, and dinner was NOT going right! My neighbor Liz came over to try to help salvage things, while I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get ready...hair, make up, perfume, etc...(I think I wound up spraying perfume in my hair and hair spray on my neck).
Just after putting my sad concoction in the oven, my doorbell rang. At this point I was hoping for a really really ugly guy who snorted boogers out his nose when he laughed, because I did NOT want to serve this stuff to a nice guy! No such luck! (He saved the booger snorting for the 2nd date!)
I opened the door to this handsome hunk of a man with the most beautiful blue eyes I’ve ever seen! Our eyes met as the smell of burnt toast filled the air.
Embarrassed, nervous, I invited him in. We sat on the couch and awkwardly talked for a few minutes. Well actually, I talked, he nodded and smiled. He pulled a miniature rose out of his pocket and gave it to me. Good looking AND romantic? Hmmm....I was starting to like this guy!
I got up to put dinner on the table, and he was right behind me, offering to help (more points in my book!). I hadn’t really stopped talking since he arrived (those who know me call it diarrhea of the mouth). I realized I was starting to babble, so I said, “I’m sorry I talk so much...?I’ll never forget the sparkle and in his eye when he said, “That’s ok, SOMEBODY has to...?The ice being broke, We were both FINALLY able to breath!
After dinner, we watched Hope Floats, a movie we had both been wanting to see. We sat together on my couch, and man, oh man! Did he smell good! I leaned a bit closer to him so that our shoulders touched, and GLORY BE, he leaned back! By the middle of the movie, I realized that, dang it all, I didn’t have anywhere to put my hand, so I had no choice but to rest it on his knee...oh well! By the end of the movie, we were sort of playing with each other’s hands...I still don’t know how that movie ended....I was too busy counting the goose bumps on my arms!
When the movie was over, we talked for a few minutes, and then he said he’d better go. He stood up...I stood up. We were facing each other. A hug was coming. But not just any hug....it was, by far, the absolute BEST hug I’ve ever received! He leaned in, and held me close. My tummy was doing somersaults. After he pried my hands off his neck, we walked to the door. We stood there for a few minutes just grinning at each other. After 4-5 more hugs, it was getting ridiculous, so I smiled and said, “Come here....?He understood completely, and leaned down and gave me the most tender, precious kiss I’d ever received. I was fluttery all over, and my knees almost failed me. He held me for a second, smiled at me, and left.
After I finished jumping on my bed, I started planning our next date! Dinner at Wendy’s (with a hug and a kiss at the end), a trip to K-Mart (with a hug and a kiss at the end), getting his tired rotated (with a hug and a kiss at the end)....anything. But that of course depended on whether he still wanted to see me after the indigestion from dinner he’d get on the way home!
