I went for a walk the other day. I walk about four miles each day when I have a chance for a little break. One of those sudden thundershowers blew in and it started to rain on me. It was the very day I decided to take my camera. One of my neighbors had the reasoning to recall that he saw me walking and realized that I was probably still out there. Lots of people saw me walking that day, and waved. He is the only person that realized enough to stop making dinner and go for a drive to get me.
Not many people think that way.
The question came up the other day about teaching someone martial arts who is on the edge. A lot of training has to do with life balance. Would I teach someone who is so off balance what I know? Absolutely yes, that is part of what it is for.
In meditation, moving or not, we assume the position and then deal with the mind. Some say the body is much easier to control than the mind for the individual. You wish to move your hand and hold it a certain way. Chances are you can do this to some degree but you can improve over time. That is the body and control. Now do the same thing with thoughts. For many people, that is what will not stay still. Thoughts wiggle, squirm around hard in the head and transform. Through the body, we reach that mind. We learn control of the body and through the body we learn to use our minds better with more control too.
Lots of people get hardened. I have been fortunate enough to see the nice side of many hard people. We even get to see a transformation sometimes. I am sure you have at least read about a few.
It is surprising what a single act of kindness can do. If you have the opportunity to show kindness to someone every week, that is something that can be learned by them. That is something pretty difficult to learn if you never experience it.
Of course I say this to be used within reason. Danger is danger.
