ZEN & BUNKAI
Pay Attention What Have You Learned? Just Thinking Empty Belly/ Full Belly The "Ox-Herding Pictures" or "Bull-Herder Series" illustrate the spiritual development of Zen students, from the moment they enter the Way until the completion of their training, when they become masters in their own right. The set of ten compiled by Master K\'uo-an is the most commonly used. K\'uo-an added a verse and commentary to each picture to indicate the nature of spiritual practice in that stage.
We were unable to obtain any copyright free images of the Ox-herding pictures, but there are several places to see the many versions online. To see more authentic pictures of the Bull-Herder series you can visit the Buddhist Art Gallery and also see the commentary for each picture. Links to several translations are available on the post Ten Oxherding Pictures. Evonne's Truckherding Pictures
