Welcome back Drac!  I am glad you seem to be doing well.  Why are you promising God not to visit here?  There must be some conflict for you?

hey! i've just something Martin Luther style to my church LOL.
Sunday evening (like 22:00) i was coming home from my trip to mountains and decided to visit the church on my way, but the security guy didnt let me enter the territory. You see the church has made a dea with some parking company so cars can park on church territory and a small amount of money of it goes to church. So that parking security really angried me, so i decided to write a pamflet with quotes from bible where Jesus chases merchants out of church, i also mentioned the parking and the guys that sell religious books, give political brouchures and even sell baloons near it!!!
I hnanged it on the churches announcement board, and it hanged for like 2 days untill someone took it down :)

Now im thinking to some more massive forms of opposition, with a bit of luck ill convince my friends to help me hold big banners during next sunday mass :)

i guess god liked that idea because my girlfriend got her period the next day, lol. my friends on hearing this said: lol, if you stick to her you'll become pope :P

Anyway that parking is going to go!

It is good to know you have finally found a woman to make a Pope out of you.

I am not sure how churches are fairing financially over where you are.  Here in the United States, many of them are searching for other types of income.  They often have banquet facilities for instance or nice retreat houses where they have workshops.  I am guessing they either made the parking agreement as a good neighbor policy or they would like the extra income that comes from it.

I don't understand why security would chase you off the property though.  Were you in a car and they refused to allow you to park in order to visit the church that particular time?

well it doesnt matter if that parking is doing any good for the church, jesus chased out even those that were selling sacrificial doves in synagogue.

John 2:13-16 "The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!"

So, who are the actual merchants in your case?  The people selling the parking spaces?

You do have a point.  I think in that particular part of the story, Jesus objected to the temple being turned into a big business.

v.13     In the outer court of the temple were set up a variety of merchants who provided the animals necessary to offer sacrifices and the moneychangers from whom one could buy the particular and not generally circulated coins that were required for the payment of temple dues.  All of this took place in what was called the Court of the Gentiles, the only part of the temple where Gentile believers could come to pray.  So all of the noise and activity of the place virtually ruined that part of the temple as a place of prayer.  What Jesus was rejecting was not the selling of animals or the changing of money per se, but the entire attitude that lay behind the worship of the temple being turned into big business and the lack of reverence that allowed such commerce to be transacted within the temple itself.

I don't make a fuss however, especially in the case where the church will not survive without other income otherwise.  If they need the money, and people object to their manner of raising funds, perhaps an offer to raise funds for them is in order.  Also, if they are being a good neighbor and offering the space for a token amount of money to cover legal issues, that is a consideration as well.  That is in a completely different spirit than simply being a merchant in the temple.  There are businesses adjoining the church I go to that allow us to park there for free during masses.

At the Buddhist temple there were several Tibetan monks selling their wares for the purpose of feeding their monastery back in India.  ALL the proceeds go to this purpose.  So the sales are keeping within the context of the spirituality.  Helping others is a kind of prayer.

If none of those situations apply, you do have a historically valid biblical viewpoint.

will not survive? lol, it has helluva money really, some people donate 100$ each week! so like no way it'll run out of money.

Today one of the leading political parties celebrated their creation of a new park named after Pope John Paul 2, the concert was held near some church too, not very good too eh. Though the park isnt quite a commercial thing but still it was only done to draw people to voting

You have to compare expenses with income.  $100 a week does not mean anything.  A lot of people here have contributed $100 a week to church groups that have not survived here.

Why are they renting the parking lot if they don't need the money?

It is important to understand the reasons why they are doing something and offer solutions.  If reasonable solutions are not at least entertained, or people do not comprehend what they are actually doing in the first place, then I think a protest is appropriate.

I do think it sucks not to be able to part at your own church though.  Does evidence suggest they are simply greedy?  Are they being good neighbors?  Do they realize people cannot park at their own church?

well it rents the land fo the parking, it itself doesnt belong to church. The church is really well-off, really. All i wanted to say is that there are different ways of raising money, and this particular one contradicts bible.
i had second thought though: that they dont cause any problems (only for me lol), dont interfere with mess and are inside the church, not to mention its really hard to find parking here
