Now this is actually far easier to get back into your roots quickly and far cheaper than its English Counterpart.
The Scottish Government Website will give you access to Marriage, Birth and Death Certificates for a set price for  7 consecutive days for £6 which gives you 30 credits.
The charge is 1 credit for an index page and 5 credits to veiw an image that you can print off.
This site has loads to offer including Parish records and is well worth a look.

oooh! Great stuff, I've been trying and trying to research my surname, but the family splits in the 1700's, half bog off to america, while half remain scattered all over britain. I know we initially heralded from scotland....so I'm going to have a nosy.

I have an older brother who has spent the lst 10 years searching out our family roots--and has come up with amazing information. My immediate family were all born in Scotland--Glasgow--Goven but we immigrated to Canada 56 years ago. We are the only members of our family in Canada the rest went to the Us or stayed in Scotland. He traces us back to be relatives to the only Scottish saint that we have St. John Oglivie--very interesting reading. My brother was luck enough to line up with family members in the Us who were doing the exact same thing.

Kind of awesome to know we have relations in many places and honoured to be a relative of someone so spirititual.
