Another invaluable source of information -
 
Census records are taken every 10 years.
 
More information is given as the years progressed but generally speaking these will give you the name, address,sex,marital status ,occupation and age of the head of the household, all other people in the household  along with their names, ages,sex, occupation and their relationship to the head of the household.
You can access the information to the 1881 census for free on the Latter Day Saints site http://www.familysearch.org/ .
The 1901 census is available on the Government site (you have to pay to access the information).
 
 
Or all census' are available through Ancestry although this has to be paid for with a monthly or yearly subscription.
