Whenever I hear the hymn Old Rugged Cross I think of my dad. He used to go out on a Friday night to the local pub and during the evening the Salvation Army girls would come in with a collection box. My father would ask them to sing the hymn and when they finished he would take the box and go around all the pub collecting for them - awwwwww. It makes me sad but it also makes me smile. Well, for me, my Dad was always whistling and singing a little ditty but "Pop Goes the Weazle" and "Twinkle, twinkle little star" but he would make up silly words to it like "Starkle, starkle little twink, who the heck you are I think"..... comes to mind for him. For my brother, Richard, I would have to say a song by Tom T. Hall "I Like Beer". Not that Richard drank a lot because he didn't but this was one of the tapes he always played when he lived at home. Great thread Brandy. Brings back memories ... thanks. Hugs, Wheezie |

it's funny, when listening to certain songs ,it can trigger and pin point a certain memory in your life, and make you think of a certain person. theres more to music than meets the eye,or should that be ear. spirit can send messages through music. many a time I'v had a question answered through a song playing on the radio, maybe I would be thinking to myself "I wonder how this is going to turn out"?and they play something like"everything is going to be alright". it's happened too many times to just be coincidence. when Bill my brother died ,mum gave me his old looking radio cassette machine, and it was as if I was putting in personal request ,I kept thinking which song I would like to record ,and every song I thought of,would keep coming up next. when I said to my husband,I can't believe it ,I just think of a record, and the record is played on the radio part, which I then record onto the tape deck. and you could have knocked me down with what happened next. my husband said "if that the case ,play (and he chose a really old song i'd never heard of) and as he started walking out of the room, bugger me ,it started to play the tune he had just picked.
ooooppss sory to go on.,i'm getting carried away. lol Brandy xxxxxxxx |

Hi Folks The last time I saw my lovely Dad 'Homeloving Man' by Andy Williams was playing on the radio, for my mum, after she had the stroke and I was wheeling her around in a wheelchair very much aware of the time being short the song "We have all the time in the world' by Louis Armstrong played on the tannoy. I cannot hear either of those songs without thinking of them. In addition the songs mum sang us when we were children (and I now sing to my granddaughter), Always, Slow boat to China and Red Roses for a blue lady, all remind me of mum and she used to cry at Unforgettable which reminded her of Dad. love and light Linda xx |
