Gos:

Since you were not permitted to make your case on another newsgroup, why don't you sum up your position here, along with "Biolad's" argument? Perhaps we can get Biolad over here to continue it.

Hans,

Did you get my email?

I emailed you earlier today, to ask permission to post unmoderated here, so that I can post the debate, blow-by-blow, without having to wait for approval for each message.

Speaking of which, assuming you do grant me permission to post unmoderated, you may want to delete this topic, as I was hoping to select the topic title myself.  I had in mind something along the lines of "Finally, a scientist with the bravery to debate a high school dropout on AIDS."

Gos:

I don't check that email address often, and the reason I do moderate is mostly so that I see the messages. Otherwise, I would likely miss one here and there. Why not just write up everything you want to say in a word processing program, select all, then copy and paste it into a post here? If you really want, you can start a new thread. I would welcome the opportunity to moderate an online debate between you and Biolad. If you can't get him to agree, however, then I'll take a look at your presentation and perhaps ask some questions or provide some evidence on my ideas.

Hans,

At this point, we have exchanged over 2 dozen emails.  If I were to paste it all to a single post, it would be HUUUUGE.  I'd really prefer to put each email into its own post, so that readers don't get mired in a big bulky chunk of text.

I could, I suppose, post it one-at-a-time, waiting for your approval after each post, but that would take forever, and there's always the chance that another group member would choose to comment at any point in the process, causing unwanted interruptions in the continuity.

I suppose another way would be for you and I to arrange to be online simultaneously, so that you could immediately approve each post as I put it up.  We could do so now, if you're online.  If so, approve this post quickly so that I'll know you're there, and we can get to work posting this debate.

I'll check back in 5 or 10 minutes to see if you've approved this post.  If not, email me at the address below my signature, and give me a time (CST) when you will be online, so that we can do it.

The debate is more or less over, having devolved into a train wreck.  However, the way that this happened shows just how resistant the guy is even to examine any of the substantial volume of proof I've sent him to refute his arguments.  As such, I think that anyone who reads it would come to the conclusion that our side won the day.

Hans,

OK -- I'm here now -- are you ready to do this?  Respond to this post if so.

Well, in grad. school, we were taught how to sum up an argument for presentation to the other grad. students, because we were pursuing very different investigations and were not familiar with all the nuances involved in a specific issue. This is what I would like you to do first here. I would then like to comment, which may just be to ask you to the first few emails (which shouldn't take up too much space, right?). I'm trying to get at the "heart" of the discussion/debate, rather than posting a huge amount of material that I might be the only person to read. In other words, I'd like to craft this thread into one that is as easy to understand for most people as I think possible, considering the likely "technicalities" involved. I may edit some of the posts, for example, if there are personal insults involved, in order to insure that the focus is on the science and nothing else.

Yeah, probably a good idea.  I'll go ahead and start the thread, then we can get busy posting the debate.

Hans,

Where'd ya go?  I just created the new thread.  (BTW, if you can, could you preface the last sentence with the words "Where possible..."?)
