I have always been intereted in proper amount of protein intake in one's diet.
Protein is lot more satiating for sure and requires more energy to be process
in the body, which I'm not sure is a good thing unless a person wants to lose
weight. Anything that stresses body too much tends to be harmful.
I came across some articles that intake of methionine, an essential amino acid
present in every protein-containing food has lot to do with lonegevity. Scientists
first thought that maybe it had to do with calorie restriction, however, it seems that
limiting methionine works somewhat independant of calorie restriction. It apparently
raises glutathione level.
Even the author of the book 'China Study' constantly stress that consuming more
protein is related to many deadly health problems. I think his examples are on the
extreme side, but something to consider about.
I know many of you are interested in PUFAs more than protein, but what are your
thoughts on protein? Animal based/plant based? Amount?
