This was a sweet, bittersweet, ironic, and sometimes comic movie with real-life twists and foibles of people falling in love, wanting to fall in love, and hoping to fall in love. It's not a treacly, happy-ever-after tale. It is enjoyable and made me laugh and even cry a bit.

The comical encounters between porn film body doubles chatting about traffic jams and other mundane topics while "posed" are amusing.  The washed-up rock star is hilarious.

We plan to see it again.

From the NYT:
Written and directed by Richard Curtis; director of photography, Michael Coulter; edited by Nick Moore; music by Craig Armstrong; production designer, Jim Clay; produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Duncan Kenworthy; released by Universal Pictures. Running time: 128 minutes. This film is rated R.

WITH: Alan Rickman (Harry), Bill Nighy (Billy Mack), Colin Firth (Jamie), Emma Thompson (Karen), Hugh Grant (Prime Minister), Laura Linney (Sarah), Liam Neeson (Daniel), Martine McCutcheon (Natalie) Heike Makatsh (Mia) Rowan Atkinson (Rufus), Lucia Moniz (Aurelia), Martin Freeman (John) and Joanna Page (Just Judy).

i've seen this movie and it cracks me up in a few places....

the washed up rock star is really funny... ahem "kids, don't buy drugs. become a pop star, and they give you them for free."

then the colin character is probably one of my favorites. (this actor can be seen on the bbc america er.. bbc show called 'my family'.) "and he's got a big knob!"
