I had applied for a job listed in the paper Sunday Aug. 25th. emailed letter and resume that Monday morning and got a phone call that afternoon. Talked to the headhunter for ablout an hour. He felt I was definitely qualified for this postion and asked me to send him 6 references. No problem I did that also by email. Followed up with a phone call a few days later to see if he recieved them and he said he would talk to some of my references and get back to me. I am not concerned about the references I gave. Have personally talked to them. Have followed up with this headhunter weekly to see what is going on. He said he needs 3 people for them to interview and that he would be coming to Ohio to interview and then to set up interviews with this company. Initially he did not tell me the name of the company, but I figured it out and asked him. Maybe I should have just applied from their web site for the job. To date he has not contacted any of my references and just said that nothing is new. So what is the best course of action for me to take?
I think I would wait a full week, then ask him if he's going to forward you to them. If he says yes, great. If he says no, ask for constructive feedback on why (then don't bite his head off for giving it--hardest part). Good luck. But bear in mind, even if he forwards you there is no gurantee they will decide to interview you.
