Board Update - Devonshire - 4/26/2004 - 9:00:56 AM
The original plan was for the Sales board to close on April 21. Because of your feedback, much of it pointed and well-written, we kept the board open as we reviewed your comments. However, the decision stands and the board will close later today.

The crux of your feedback was the value of anonymity on the existing message boards. After speaking with a few of you personally, I agree this is a compelling argument.

But I ask you to understand that the value of Teams on the new Networking platform is an opportunity to reach out and connect with someone who may be able to help you with your career. This is Monster's mission -- bringing people together to advance their lives. You'll now have the ability to quickly search and find someone who has the same skill set and/or interests. You can find an old colleague or classmate. You can take full advantage of Monster's huge user base and connect.

Again, thanks for your feedback. It did not go unnoticed. And even though the decision stands, your voices made enough of a difference for us to postpone the decision and listen.

The offer is still open for you to join Networking for 90 days free. That takes you well into July, with no commitment.

I hope you give it a chance. Your participation will make Teams a better place.

Thanks.

Dan

Dan, thanks for letting us know. My post titled "what would you do" cross-posted with yours. Another irony!!!

Not to argue with the decision, because it has a ring of finality, but I think you can see the validity of the need to be anonymous. The position was posted on monster, and gets into issues that are highly confidential on both sides - mine, as the candidate for the positon, as well as the company's.

Dan, thanks for trying. Give the sandbox idea a try, it might work. if not you know where to find us on yahoo.

Good morning Dan, I read your posts and thank you for keeping this board open at least for the short term.

Your doing so does not necessary preclude the user from participation in both forums at the same time. For example, it's certainly possible to post here, remaining anonymous for general job search process issues, and at the same time participate in networking on other matters or for different questions.

I wonder, though, is the identity on networking directly linked to the user profile on Monster? If so, is there any way to sever the two, and perhaps have a general background or subject matter interest description vs. one's entire CV displayed?

Re: Dan Miller - - Devonshire - 4/26/2004 - 9:03:06 AM
numberonesculler -- one of the things we will be looking at in Teams is the possibility of creating a "sandbox" that allows members to interact separately from their profile.

It's only a suggestion at this point, but we will look into it based on your feedback.

Dan

Odd--just yesterday afternoon Dan Miller seemed sanguine about keeping the Sales Forum open.

I assume that you either read the feedback here, or else have it fed to you--and I'm the Monster poster who started the posting frenzy by posting an open letter to you.

I applaud the decision to keep the free forums open, at least temporarily; it's a great PR move to keep affinity with the Monster name. Clearly there are business objectives and goals to upsell as many people as possible to the fee based service, and I think that you'll be successful with that long term.

By maintaining a free site such as this, you not only keep people on your site but attract newbies to your site. We all have, or will have, disposable income at some point in th future which we might spend with Monster.

If you shut us down, when we do have disposable income we might not spend it here.

That's a risk only you can quantify. I don't know the projected savings and projected revenue in your current monster clientele, but I'd bet the farm you'll lose people.

Thanks for listening (and I believe you do in some form)

I personally don't understand the concept that closing a free message board would prompt the users to use a fee-based system. The cost of running a board such as this sales forum is negligible and the total number of current users seems to be comparatively small. I might be surprised by the number of lurkers that read these messages, but as I said, I’d be surprised!

I have to hope that Monster has taken a second look at their actions and decided to leave the forums open. I have found many helpful ideas here and I hope I’ve been able to drop a hint here and there. Some of the nicest and brightest people frequent these boards. I’d hate to be separated from their input and value. Would I pay for these boards? No! Would a few banner ads bother me? Not at all! Do I want to pay to network? No! NO!

Good Luck to All!

AmSales, KirbyMurphy - thanks for your feedback.

I am listening. We are listening. I've spoken to a few of you. Because of this, the board has remained open. While Monster Networking is a cutting-edge way to make real connections based on who you are, it's clear that anonymity is important to some of you. I'll keep you updated.

Dan
