Our store wants to get rid of the whole phone system. We are not suppose to page for anyone. Service desk gets one phone until night. They are not allowed to page departments up to the front to get returns or anything. Produce and dairy never come up on their own and food is now going bad if no one can walk it back because of it being busy. If us on the floor need anybody, we have to go and find the associate we are looking for,,,including managers which isnt an easy task. The store is hopinh to totally get rid of the phone soon. How are customers suppose to get to specific departments.when they call?..concidering its coming up on christmans and I work in the toy department....Is anyone elses store like this? Or has this one gone C.R.A.Z.Y??

i don't call on my phone unless on break...i will however take a text from my son off the floor and in the bathroom if it is time for him to be coming home, etc....i work in a dept where i can pretty much walk off the floor as i see fit, so its not a problem...i don't leave people waiting in my dept as we're never there by ourselves due to high theft...

lol Fallen.  I didn't mean waiting on the sales floor for service, I meant waiting for a stall in the bathroom while an associate is in their finishing their call.  This has actually happened to me before, I almost didn't make it!  lol.

This hasn't started at my store.  They haven't even talked about it.  Our fitting room lady screams on that PA all day long.  And on the walkie.. lol she gets on the nerves a bit, but I know she can't help it.  If people would answer the calls the first time she wouldn't have to repeat it 3x.  It will very interesting to see how that is implemented here in Eastern NC...

Has happened with the no paging in our store. And it sucks. What are they thinking?
Also heard they were taking out phones in some areas. How are we supposed to get ahold of someone?  I hate covering fitting room now. Is that there way of getting rid of the fitting room person?  Does your store have one?

If you cannot page how are you going to do a code adam, fire in building, or any other emergency that needs to be taken care of right then and there

My store has a fitting room person for 1st and 2nd shift and then Electronics answers the phone after 11 pm.

When I need a member of mgmt for an interview or whatever, always call the fitting room so they can walkie one. I think people have learned to tune out the PA system and are less apt to answer.

I just can't imagine them doing away with the phone sys/PA completely. Especially for emergency purposes like thekid mentioned.

Starts the 16th for us.
Half the phones in our store don't work.
Do they think we just stand by the phone waiting for it to ring.
If your in the backroom how are you going to know the phone is ringing in your area?
Oh wait I forgot with the new system we won't be in the backroom as much......yeah right.
For softlines we have one phone that works in Infants....and sometimes that is iffy.

So this went into effect at my store last week...and for me it's not so bad. Of course that could be b/c our main day cashier seems to think that the PA system should be used constantly for everything. She pages for everything, even if you are standing 50 feet from her in the aisle, she will page you to the register. Of course it is not strictly enforced 90% of the time and there is such bad communication about things that a lot of people do not know about it yet.

For example one of our market team managers was in today, and one of the DM paged for ICS. Well the AM immediately called the number the DM paged from and and told him not to do it anymore...but the DM hadn't heard about the paging rule yet.

Then someone needs to tell 3rd shift about not paging. It's not fair for 1st and 2nd shift to have to stick to the rules and third shift not to.

OMG...we have those TVs all over the store...and it is the same 5 commercial type things repeated over and over for days. They drive me absolutely batty some days. Ya know that Fruit Of The Loom commercial that Clint Black did? Well imagine hearing that song every couple of minutes for 9 hours. Eventually you really HEAR the words of the song and you think it is even nuttier. "Daddy was the apple of my eye...like underwear he's with me til I die"

The SM did tell us they are supposed to be getting rid of them at some point...it was the only thing in the morning meeting that got a round of applause the other day. ~L~

we were told we had to wear the earpiece with the walkie..well guess what...it's a safety hazard, but they wouldn't believe me..until the wire got caught on the register carousels. ripped the earpiece off my ear, almost ripping out my earring, snagged my shirt when when it ripped off the clip and sent the walkie flying at a customer..so I filed an incident..like that will matter...so now I refuse to wear the earpiece...when mgt is trying to get ahold of me, I tell them to find me, cause I won't wear a walkie without a wireless earpiece...yeah like they're gonna supply those

About the only time the no paging is really enforced is when the market team is in the store. They tend to hunt down whoever paged and tell them not to page.

Regarding the earpieces, I know all of the people in our stores who are wearing them each have their own ear pieces to have, and they loop them up the inside of their shirt and up through the collar. I never thought about why, but maybe they were anticipating safety issues? They don't supply personnel a walkie (which is an absolute joke!!!) so I can't attest to any of the ear piece wearing/not wearing aside to walkies are annoying when people have them on full blast and no ear piece in the training room.

Ranks..... the way we have solved the issue of the wire getting hung on everything is to run the wire under your shirt and out the top, clipping the mic to your collar.  I know customers find it "most interesting" to watch us "get wired"....lol  Each CSM has their own ear piece because I refused to share cooties.  I think customers think we are fondling ourselves when they see us sliding the wire under our shirts - nope we don't go into the restroom to "get wired".  We do it on the sales floor!

Our SM reminded all of us that we were not allowed to make pages........seems there was some question about whether some of the phones would be disabled from making pages....HO said can't do that because of emergencies.  With all the complaints about "to much noise" in the stores......we are starting Christmas music on Nov. 1!!!!!!  Suzy Snowflake flies again!   LOL!
