I just enrolled in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Insurance for 2009 and was wondering if it's a pretty good deal or not. I'm pretty healthy and go to the Doctor's once or twice a year, sometimes a little more if I'm sick. Ok. I picked the $2,000 annual deductible, $2000 Out of Pocket Max and $100 Health Care Credit thru Blue Cross and Blue Shield for $5.90 bi-weekly or $11.80 a month. Those of you who have Blue Cross Blue Shield, are they any good? I heard a lot of good and some bad about them. I was originally going to go through Aetna, but the name kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. I did notice that there's quite a bit more Doctor's on Blue Cross, but a few more Hospitals on Aetna. BUT the few more Hospitals that Aetna offers are not as good as Aetna's selection. I can't qualify for their Dental Insurance because I'm not full-time, maybe a little later down the road.

As for the Other Benefits, I contribute about 25% of my salary toward my 401(k) and was thinking of decreasing that to 15% and using the other 10% that I was originally putting toward my 401(k) toward the Associate Stock Purchase Plan since they put in .15 for every dollar I put in up to the first $1,800. And as I see the market going down or Walmart's stock is a bit low, I will put a little more money into the Stock.

I meant to say *BUT the few more Hospitals that Aetna offers are not as good as Blue Cross Blue Shield's selection.

In addition, if I don't put money toward the Associate Stock Purchase Plan, I'm thinking of opening an IRA thru Computershare and putting $4,000 a year toward Stock since I already save for my 401(k).

FTD I think you will find that BC/BS is about the best out there. Most doctors and hospitals use them.

We chose the $500 health care credit, and the $2000 out of pocket and max.  If we stay healthy for the most part, the $500 will cover our year at no expense.  However one major problem can cost a small fortune.  When I had my back surgery, we still ended up owing close to $10,000 after insurance.  Here, you spend the $2000, everything else is covered!!!  Sounds great to me.  Hopefully we won't have to check it out.  Lu
