Back-up in jewelry???  We don't have enough to just cover jewelry, much less electronics, sporting goods, hardware, ...you get the picture!  Sounds like the dept manager will be "delegating" tasks to YOU!  Enjoy.  LS  P.S. I don not work in jewelry although have to cover it at least 4 of 5 working days...not all day but for lunches, breaks, etc...that is when I am not covering electronics, site to store, etc.

When I was in jewelry I had your position.  They called it the sales coordinator.  If your department manager is good he or she will show you the ropes so you can be a jewelry department manager in time.  I learned how to do claims, check in freight and do mods.  My last department manager I just got to do all of the things she did not like to do and none of the stuff our district manager said I should be doing.  I always loved taking special orders.  I don't know if jewelry does its own claims now or if they just take them back to claims.  I loved jewelry at one time and would not work in any other department.  The last department manager I had was not very good, she played favorites and made the department not so much fun anymore.  You are also supposed to do department manager duties when your manager is not there.  Jewelry can be a fun and exciting place to work.

I thought that position went away when the score card went into effect.

I don't think my store has one anyway.  Our jewelry counter is very slow.  The number of associates the jewelry department could have was based on sales.  If sales were at a certain level for a period of time they got a sales coordinator and if they were higher they got a freight coordinator but that was 5 years ago and a lot  has changed.  What is the score card I don't believe I have heard that term ( in other that a sports reference LOL)?
