I have been with Walmart for 13 years. It will be 14 in April. I currently work in the Photo lab and I enjoy it quite a bit. I have been in domestics, fabrics and crafts and jewelry. Photo is changing a lot. When I first started in photo 4 years ago we averaged about 100 rolls of film a day. That first summer was quite busy. At my new store we have not been nearly that busy and we average about 10 rolls a day. We had days where we only did 1 or 2. Our digital printing has picked up some of the slack tho. About 3 weeks ago they took away our film processor. I have talked with other photo people in my city and they think we will be getting the new dry printer really soon. We are not so sure tho. Our printer is only 2 years old and we keep up on maintenance so we have few problems.
So what did the customers think about losing the processing in the lab? Where are you located, by the way, and are there other one-hr labs in your area?
We still have ours. We average anywhere up to 30 rolls, usually alot less. I wish they knew or would let US know when they plan on taking ours out and when they plan on going with the dry lab. Our machines are close to 10 yrs old and we are always having issues...
Our customers are very unhappy about us not having 1 hour processing anymore. Our customers are very happy with our digital service but a lot of people still like to use film. We are in Ohio and several Wal-Mart labs don't process film anymore. We have a few problems with our send out service. Our stuff goes to Tennessee now and I think they must do most of this region. We have changed locations 2 times. When I first came to photo our stuff went to Mansfield Ohio and they were great. Fuji closed that one and our stuff went to Crawfordsville Indiana, Fuji has closed that location and now our stuff goes to Tullohoma Tennessee. It is a wonder Fuji can stay on 2 days for film processing now.
