SO most of you know that I'm in Pets as a sales associate.. My dept manager today asked me if I was interested in taking over as deparment manager of pets. . . I guess he's considering changing positions/departments :( I don't know if I am really interested in department manager, I wana move up in the company, but I really had CSM on my mind. but the front end won't give me a shot at it, they keep putting new people as it. SO i feel i may need this dept manager spot if I want to move further.. Thing is, I'm not sure if I can handle it or not. Can anyone tell me what the responsibilites of a department manager are? Mad_martian, how hard is it per say for dept manager of pets? |

Joseph,every department manager will tell you that thier department is the hardest.You have the same paper work in all departments.You can do it and it would be a stepping stone for you.It isn't even open yet is it?You know how that goes,sometimes they have a person already picked out. |

I agree with both Learning and Lady about it. I hear people in Pets that say that their Department is hard. I go to Garden and they are like, NO, my Dept is worse than theirs. It's a bunch of hoopla, IMO. Joseph, you can handle ANYTHING you put your mind to. All we ever ask is that you do the best you can. That's all anyone can ever ask. It might be difficult at first; however, later down the road, you will be like, SWEET, let me explore another Department or maybe update my Career Preference for the Leaders Out in Front Program. The opportunities are endless. Good Luck. |

the responsibilities are the same for each dept. You will be responsible for all price changes, rollbacks, save even more, Mods, features, your bins, all your freight. Once you learn all these you just need to get yourself on some sort of schedule during the course of the day to get the things done. Of course you may or may not have anyone in your dept. which again all falls on you. Its not as bad as some make it out to be. I would say go for it... and don't worry whether or not you can handle it.... you can... its really not that hard. |
