This is a song that a bunch of us helped write about Lakeside & the workers when we were in Brooks for our Internship. Two people from our internship sang it at the bbq we had for the workers. We wrote it to Buffalo Springfields For What It's Worth. We called it that as well.
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH:
There's something happening here
What it is, is exactly clear
There's a Lakeside boss over there
Telling me, I've got to beware
Stop, workers whats that sound
Everybody look whats going down
We're fighting for our dignity
We got a right to be free
Lakeside wants you to be afraid
You want your rights and try to send you away
There's something happening here
What it is, is exactly clear
There's a Lakeside boss over there
Telling me, I've got to beware
Stop, workers whats that sound
Everybody look whats going down
If you're from here or a far off land
Workers united must stand
We got nothing to loose but our chains
Freedom is a word we don't have to explain
There's something happening here
What it is, is exactly clear
There's a Lakeside boss over there
Telling me, I've got to beware
Stop, workers whats that sound
Everybody look whats going down
One Wednesday morning in the heat
1000 workers in the street
Want respect and human rights
Lakeside is afraid because we know how to fight
There's something happening here
What it is, is exactly clear
There's a Lakeside boss over there
Telling me, I've got to beware
Stop, workers whats that sound
Everybody look whats going down
We know our union is strong
We stick together, it won't be long
No more working for free
Gang time is Lakeside stealing from you and me
There's something happening here
What it is, is exactly clear
There's a Lakeside boss over there
Telling me, I've got to beware
Stop, workers whats thats sound
Everybody look whats going down
When the 2 people sang this at the bbq we had for the workers the whole crowd chanted 401, 401 which is the Alberta local number. We wrote this while we were there before the strike happened. We got alot of positive feedback from it.
