UFCW Worker Loses Life in Accident at Cargill

November 23, 2005

UFCW Local 230 member Paul McCrory passed away November 16 after he was involved in an accident on the job at a Cargill Meat Solutions plant in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was trapped for about 40 minutes beneath a rail on a conveyor system, which had collapsed.

OSHA investigators are looking into the cause of the accident, including allegations that Paul had warned management about a potential safety hazard. While the investigation continues, slaughter production is stopped at the plant, which has over 2,000 workers.
