One of my friends put in a vacation request, nine days, two weekends and five days during the week. She was told she can't take two weeks. Can mgmt. do that ?

Of course they can!  However, if the person has the vacation time she or he could fight for it.  LS

Marle, great question.

I have been with walmart for several years, and every time i have put in for 2 weeks together and never had a problem, up until this year. This year my assistant (until they did thier rotation) denied my request, and said that dept. mgrs. should never be allowed to take 2 weeks off together. I went over thier head to the store mgr. who approved it for me. Just food for thought.

I told my friend to go to her asst. mgr. and I think she's going to do that next week.

If it was me i would definately ask the assistant as well. Good advice. This way it gives the assistant a chance to explain and change thier mind. If it fails, and they still want the vacation, like i did, then they can always go up the chain of command.

In England if you have a holiday booked and you can prove you have the booking , e.g a printout, they cannot deny your request as long as you have given enough time for the request.

What do you mean booking Bren? Do you mean you put in for it at walmart as the booking or do you mean that you booked it with a travel agency, etc.?

I deleted my original response since it was already covered!  I also want to point out that the "time" put in is equal to ONE week vacation and FOUR  scheduled "off" days.  Two weeks is 14 days, no matter how you slice it...so, she is not asking for TWO weeks vacation...plus her OFF days!  When taking 2 weeks you could work it out to 16 days off...10 vacation and the rest "weekends"..' like this...2 off days + 5 vacation days +2 off days + 5 vacation days +2 off days+16!  That's how I did mine and it was GREAT!  LS

When I wanted two weeks, I went first to my store manager and asked him. He okayed it with no hesitation. I have done it twice now.

Hope you stand up and get your time Marle.

Thanks Fallen/Bren. I see what your saying now. Wish they did that here.
