Well I got a written coaching last night. They said it was because I had missed nine days in 6 months. For the last month I have been going to work on a broken foot.
I took one day off becaus my foot was so swollen I could not even think about putting a shoe on.
This really sucks because at most employers if you are calling in sick and you have sick time. It automatically goes towards sick time.
I am almost at the point of quitting. Shoot I was working my ass off so much last April that I ended up at the Hospita and had a Mild Heart Attack.
Working my ass off at work and bein sick finally caught up with me that day.
But this is B. S because there favorite ones can call in and leave early when ever they want......
No favortism in Walmart.  BULL

They are sticking really close to the rules at our store. As for working on a broken foot, I had to do the same, cut the seam out of one side of my shoe to relieve the pressure. The doctors just don't do much for broken toes and feet, just tell you to tape it and it will heal.... eventually......... I was lucky that my managers and associates were quite caring and helpful while mine healed.

i got told the reason why i got my d-day was because i got on someone's wrong side and it was their way of trying to get rid of me..but i haven't fucked up once since so they have no grounds...as for the absence policy..if they followed it in my store i would have been gone months and months ago

About that Heart attack thing, we also had a guy that had a MAJOR heart attack, he went on vacation, and because he isn't a manager favorite, he had NO help during that time, so when he came back, he had about 2 dozen pallets, a swarm of late BAM exceptions, and a completely torn apart department. He worked through all that in one day, and that night... this cost us who was (IMO) the best department manager our store had. He is still there, but only as a sales associate.
And as for the favoritism thing, this is a relization that we all have to face one time or another. I honestly wish everyone would go out and find a better job EXCEPT for the manager favorites (you know, the ones that do so little and get away with so much) lets see how well the store runs then... after all nobody but the "best" would be left

It's people who have abused the system who have ruined it for those who truly need the days off. I'm sorry to hear that you're one of those people who needed it and that it turned out that way for you.
Yeah, this is why your 1st sick day doesn't count as a sick day. Too many call outs, of course, this leads to those who needed to be out 1 day taking 2-3 off.

On the bright side, it could have been worse... 4 days is supposed to be a verbal.... 5 is supposed to be a written.... 6 a D-Day... and 7 is supposed to be termination... at least it was only a written.
I was told that no one will ever be fired (in my Market anyway) for an attendance related issue without involvement of the Market HR.
Bare in mind that being out 3 days in a row counts as one absence, but being out 1 day, coming in the next, and being out the next is 2 absences, so although she said 9 days, it could be more like 5 absences, if she was out for 3 days each one at a time, and then out 3 days at a time twice.
And if they followed the attendance policy at my store, everyone would be gone, Except me. But if there's one thing that I learned, good reliable workers who show up to their job every day on time and take pride in their job are NOT the kind of people Wal-Mart wants. So, I went somewhere that likes workers like this (and everyone they hire is the same way as me, whether it be Wal-Mart or another company, they were tired of being treated like dirt for giving it their all while manager favorites get all the credit for doing NOTHING)

Lady, you really might want to consider quitting (after landing another job of course). If there's one thing I know about coachings like this, the hardest part is watching other people get away with what got you in trouble... EVERY DAY.

I read this with interest because I just have gotten off a LOA for the flu. It's a crying shame a person can't get over an illness like the flu without having to take a &%^% leave of absence!    What good is sick days or personal days if they aren't automatically applied when needed? How stupid!

I really blame Walmart for me getting the flu.  Honestly since Christmas I've been so run down, it was HELL there with so little help and all the hassles we had to go thru, I really haven't recovered from Christmastime!!

I got my resume updated..............I feel bad for someone who has to work with a broken FOOT for heavens sake how awful!

It all goes back to the people who abused attendance and management who didn't follow up with previous policies. It's incredibly unfair to people who are legitimately sick and shouldn't be at work. I know I don't need to go to the doctor if I have a really bad cold - I just need to stay at home, rest, etc. But if I want those absences excused, I have to find a doctor who'll take me out. It's rather silly.

My store has recently cracked down on attendance and it has thrown the store for a loop. Talk about low morale! People are getting green sheeted left and right (more for no call, no shows than anything else) and entering the personal discussion/coaching process because of absences. MOST of them I know are legitimate - kids sick, schools closed, couldn't get out of the parking lot because of the snow, icy roads, etc. - but because they were already scheduled and there was no state of emergency declared for the weather, it is all unexcused. Since I'm in personnel now I get to try and explain that to these people and it really stinks so much! The worst part is when the manager tells them they can't have another unexcused absence until June, July, August, etc. Things happen unexpectedly and it's a shame that this is where we've gone.

Lady -

Had they coached you previously for absences or was this the first they addressed it with you?

The rule of thumb at my store is that if they haven't done a personal discussion or verbal coaching for the appropriate absences as defined by the policy, they have to start with the personal discussion. They say this is because it is their fault for not informing the associate where they stand with their absences and it's unfair to start in the middle or end when it is management who has dropped the ball. Each store is different and unfortunately there is no consistency though.

MY UPDATE:
I knew something was really wrong with my foot. So I finally broke down and went to the Dr.s Yesterday. OMG talk about Pain.
It was about a month ago that I had stubbed my toe to where the whole toe was black and blue. It felt like I had actually ripped my toe off my foot.
But went to see Doc. He said that I had totally dislocated my toe off my foot.
OMG he said that since it was in the healing stage that he had to re break the toe and put it back in. Now he is also concern that I might have what is called a Jones Facture. The bones on the far side of my foot might even be fractored. I won't know that until Monday when I go back to see him. So now I am on LOA for one week for now. He also stated that walking on it like I have been was NOT a good idea.
I might be also going to a foot specialist too.
I will keep you all updated.
Lady

I have worked at walmart for  four 1/2 years now...never had a call out untill this past month. I had a issue with my last week of vacation..I had let it run almost to my anniversary date ..because I have no one in my dept...one second shift part time and she averages missing one day a week ...I was told I would have to take it or lose it..but I got sick before I could get it in the computer..I picked up a really bad backterial infection in my eye..the first two days I worked ..thinking it was just from the cold ..or allergys ,on the second day ..I did a interview and could not even read the app...I knew I was in trouble...went to my Dr ..still thinking this is one hell of a cold ..he had me in a eye sugeons office within the hour ..where I stayed for about four hours..because they had to scrape the cornea ,to make a long story short I missed Fri..Mon and Tue ..went back in on a wed...was told I could take three days of my vacation to cover the days out ..but it would still count against me ..now if they are going to count them as vacation days ..why would it be counted gainst you  ??....I had to go back to the Opt every day for ten days ..and am still going every other day now...I try  to schedule my app..after work..but not always possiable...I was told if I clocked out early three times ..it would be one more day against me....And you guessed it ..while I was out ..not one dam person was sent to do my dept ..I knew it would be a mess ..and it was ..One other Dm came to my dept when I got back...she did apologize and tried to help me get it zoned up.When the Am (new) came in and saw me ..he had a fit ...because my eye still looked like someone had took a shovel to it..kinda looked like Popeye there for a few day's..anyway ..he apologized and said it didn't really know how sick I was ..and he has helped a lot..the last few days ....But my point was to him ..I am out one time in four and 1/2 years ...all the Dr's excuses you want and it counts against me ..the little  shits on second miss all the time ..and they are still hanging in there..don't tell me they can't go in and clean up your record...

OK, I've wondered about a few things along this line.

On the LOA, is this new or did I just not realize it... NOW, if you take a LOA for, say, 2 weeks with the flu, and you come back to work then, say, have surgery and are off for 8 weeks.... there is only a set number of days TOTAL you can have per year, and the first 2 weeks are deducted from the amt of LOA you can take the 2nd time.  (Does that make sense how I typed that)  I thought each LOA started over fresh....

And I can't remember what the other thing was I was going to comment on... I'm tired!!

I didn't know there was a limit as to how much LOA you can take?
I know a couple years ago, our Merchandise supervisor took at least 4 of them (one was 3 months long. ALL SUMMER)  and she retained her job and title!
She finally quit but hey, as far as I know as long as she had genuine doctor's paperwork  filled out by her doctor, they didn't say anything.
They also didn't fill her job when she was gone, said they "couldnt"

By Federal law, an employee is entitled to take a total of 12 weeks LOA in any 12 month period.  So, you should be OK.  Do your math and check it out!  I am currently on a one year intermittent LOA due to my husbands illness.  The very first day was "personal" and all subsequent days are "sick".  Luckily I have enough hours of both so that I don't lose any pay when I have to be off for him.  Some changes are coming in April...don't know what they are yet but rumor has it that you have to get "updated" signatures from the doctors who signed the original LOA.  Will be watching for that information and will pass it on when I find out what the new "rules" are going to be.  LS

Its all about how its entered into the system.

Lets say I miss Monday then work on Tuesday, but miss Wed. Well they can enter it in as 2 absences because i worked on Tuesday, but if its for the same illeness there are ways to get it approved and entered as a recurring one.
