I realize not everyone knows what we do, so this is part of my day/or night whatever.

We do special orders for mothers rings and class rings and couples rings and jewelry that is personalized.  (complicated and has to be done exact) Then calling those in to the company who makes our stuff.

We do ring sizings thru the telezon, then completing all the paperwork for that and filling out the forms for DHL to come and get them and making the calls to DHL

We still have layaways, and  have to do the paperwork and filing for that and bin audits (a lot)

Do ear piercings(sometimes for babies, I hate this!) And all the paperwork that entails.(a lot)

Do the daily audits for gold and diamonds(a lot of searching and more paperwork)
Log in all the boxes of freight we get in the log books
Log in all the custom jewelry boxes and sunglasses and put those out
change out watch batteries(using jeweler's tools like small screw drivers hahahahahhahah)
and bands(another hahahah since this is HARD to do and have had no training because well none of have had any training we are NOT jewelers)

Remove links from bands to adjust watches since NONE OF THEM FIT ANYONE
(and again this is too hard, as we are not jewelers)
And thats all I can think of off the top of my head but I know there is much more ......................and I never sit down except for my one 15 minute break and either half hour to 1 hour lunch.
So many people think we just clean the glass(yes we do that) and show people jewelry.

That is so little a part of the whole thing, and we get so little consideration.

OK here comes the rant part

The other night, I worked 3 to 10 alone(oh yes no one was in shoes and stationary, which I had to cover also even though I am in a secured area with a register)...............even when we are slow ..alone is hard, because I need to find someone to cover even if I have to run to the bathroom.

Anyway, I had a lot of things to do that day, changing out siging in all our cabinets 14 of those, and spinners on top, 8 of those, took me hours to do, had the usual problems with very weird customers etc. I had been running all over and had a several workers ask me if I felt ok, I looked like hell with dark circles and bags under my eyes.
At 9:50, the A$$ MANAGER over my dept came by(as he did a few times just waiting to catch me not doing something) He said do you see those signs? I said yes(signs out in the dept by the cheap watches and figureines on the other side.
He said, one of them(signs that are like 1 ft by 1 ft) he said one of them is sort of ivory colored and the rest are white in the dept ..I said well it matches the whole display which is also ivory. He said I want it WHITE you have 10 minutes go find a white one(this would be a walking and looking type of thing that would be about maybe 1;/2 MILE ON FOOT to the fixture room
I said hey, I CANNOT DO IT
HE SAID I WANT IT TONIGHT
I said I CANT DO IT, Im recovering from the FLU(he knows this because I was on LOA for 2 weeks and this was my second day back)
and I CANT DO IT TONIGHT. He said OK looked disgustly at me and left
What a frucking a$$hole   (sorry for the sorta language but it fits)

Thanks for letting me vent.   I had to say it.

what you should have said is what i say and it seems to work, even with store management notes at the last minute....yes sir, its on my list, but i am due to go home in 10 minutes and if I stay then I will have overtime but I will make sure it gets done first thing in the morning....or the old standby..sure sir, can you cover my department so i can go get this?

at least in my store, the conversationy ou had would be grounds for termination as its insubordination (and not eligible for unemployment)

I should have taken another week of LOA.  They don't know anything about my dept and not even the managers, not even the store manager herself. We are down 2 people as it is.

that conversation would be grounds for temination? oh Ok,

never mind Fallenangel Kelly.  If that's grounds for termination, then I am working in the wrong place.

i know what you mean about the managers not knowing anything about the dept....the assistant over our dept does but not many others know anything...its funny when they walk through and we are busy and some customer grabs them and asks them something basic and they don't know and send them back to us...yeah in my store stuff like that is grounds for termination...had it happen to a guy in our dept who was asked to go get carts 5 min before he was due to leave on a friday...he couldn't stay he would have had overtime and told them so..when he came in the next day he was fired for insubordination for that incident..this is a guy who had an impeccable record and impeccable attendance...is it right? hell no but its the way it is

The thing is, if you do have a problem there is NO one to back you up.

I don't know if any of you know about Meijers stores but they have a union. Ok it's not the best union, but it's somewhere to turn if you need someone to have your back, and at Walmart there is NO ONE!!

That's the thing with WM and their managers. I believe they are of the opinion(for the most part) that this is their "career" and the rest of us are expendable. They also discount that a lot of us are not dummies, and we are educated, in most cases more than they are.

I can't tell you the amount of things they have messed up in our dept, trying to fudge their way thru something because there has been no coverage and the buck stopped at them.

The morale where I am working is very low, and getting lower.
