Whelp, I can't become a department manager for a year. Despite working my rearend off, working a shift (11-8) that I absolutely despise, and doing anything an assistant or store manager might ask of me, I have been throughly coached.
The first was for absences, though I was under the impression that an assistant was to inform you that you had 3. I'd forgotten that I'd been absent in September.
Secondly, after I'd been in the hospital, my mother was very worried about me. To the point that if she texted me and I did not respond, she'd call, and call, and call. (I'm only 21, and 300 miles away from her.) So, while door greeting one night, I answered her. And talked to the people in the deli, because they were short handed, and I'm trained over there, and I was checking to see if one guy needed to be relieved before his 6 hours was up. Unfortunately, that's when the market manager walked in.
What really upsets me is that the day before the coaching occured, I had a very good interview for department manager of papergoods and chemicals.
It's not like I wasn't doing my job. I greeted customers, I took care of returns. I was just helping out another department that had been badly scheduled.
I've heard before that politics are played in this chain. Now I believe it. The woman who complained about not being called for an interview got Depts. 4 and 13.
Sigh.
Such is life.
Now I'm back on Grocery ICS, and just relaxing until I find a better job.

Hang in there. Sadly, this whole policy of calling in and everything has made it harder for those who are genuinely sick.

Don't get me wrong i got tired of people who would miss and claim they were sick and would call in if looked like they thought in the next month it might snow, LOL. While it has weeded out many bad people, it also is not fair to those who are doing thier best as well. It is creating people to abuse the policy as well, by filling out LOA for different things. Lot of people are lying to get a LOA for different things and there are quack doctors out there that will back it up if need be. Sadly, its not solving all the problems the company thought it would.

Hang in there.

OH Gosh I know what you are going through. I have busted my butt off for this company before plus I had been working on a broken foot.
I had just got off of a D-Day and looking for move up and get a department.
But I had one too many days offs. Plus there was nights that we were allowed to go home early. But I still got coached for that again.
So I finally went to the Dr. because my foot was so big when I got home from the night before working. That I could not even get a shoe on.
My Dr. gave me a look like" What the hell was you thinking"
My little toe was not just broken. But it was also dislocated.
So since I waited almost a month to go see him. It had started healing. Which means that he had to rebrake the toe and put it back in the sockit.
So I have now been off work for 3 weeks taking care of me.
I have learned after being with this company for almost 4 years. That
I am not going to bust my butt for them anymore.
Shoot last year I worked so hard for this darn company I ended up in the hospital with a mild heart attack. I am only 43 too.
So keep your chin up don't let them bring you down. Just do your job and keep looking for another because that is what I am doing too.
WALMART IS NOT THE SAME PLACE IT USE TO BE WHEN SAM WAS ALIVE

hold up..i have a dday on my file and was under the same impression BUT got told by my assistant that management can look the other way for a dday to make someone a dept manager if they really feel someone can do it good...so its not the end of the world..keep doing what you are doing now and possibly they will look the other way on that bit for you too...i don't have a dept yet but hope to before my dday becomes not active again
