well I found out that the lead has an intermittent leave of absence for a medical condition which basically means she can call in when she ever wants and say its her leave of absence. Stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Still she uses it mostly when it is a day next to when she has a day off coming. Like last weekend she had Saturday off calls in Sunday saying its her medical leave. Both our day people called in one on Saturday and one on Sunday both had the following day or previous day off. What a line of crap. They do this all the time. Call in next to a day they have off. Come on Wal_Mart wise up. They won't leave us use sick pay for the first day when you are sick cause they are afraid people will take advantage of the sick pay then they come up with this leave of absence thing. Give me a break. These people are using it and taking advantage of it. WAKE UP WAL_Mart!!! |

Yep ...it is a joke...but I understand they are going to revise the policy both for absents and the intermittent leave..I don't know when they plan to implement it ..but there is a lot of talk about it in our store..one of the Co said the intermitten leave would be very hard to get and would have to have a Dr statement every 30 days .. We have several ..that abuse the hell out of it .. |

Yeah it really hurts because they can't hire anyone to help out while one is on LOA of any kind. we've had one on intermittent leave for over a year now.....we can't count on them showing up, but can't hire a replacement either.....makes it hard for all of us. |

My personal discussion is coming soon as I was out Wednesday. Two of my 3 absences fall off next month, but I'll still get talked to.
We had an associate yesterday who has 3 active absences and came to work having little function in one of her legs. Apparently there's an issue with some nerve being pinched so it makes it hard to walk, but she didn't want to be coached. She is one of our best cashiers who is always at work. One of her active absences was because she called out when it was snowing and she had been in a car accident. She didn't want to go home and have an absence so I told her if she stayed 50% of her shift and went home, it'd only be an unauthorized leave early instead of an absence. She decided to work half of her shift and then got approved to go home. What a joke though.
Using sick time - not being able to use it the first day is an absolute joke. I think it encourages people to call in a second or third day as they're going to be getting the same amount of pay if they use sick hours. I'm sure it stemmed from people just calling off and using sick hours to cover it when they weren't really sick, but it really stinks for people who are legitimately out of work and don't want to come to work sick. Because of this, we have a lot of people who come to work sick. |

I agree, it tends to help those who abuse it. Most will miss the 3 days in a row, because it only counts against them once. |

I agree totally with that. I have always said that if I'm gonna be sick and can't use the sick day on day one, then I might as well stay home until I am fully better and use some of my 192 hours. As you might well guess, since I have 192 hours, I haven't been sick or had to use any. |

Glad to hear that Beachbum. I used to be able to say i could count the days I missed on one hand, but after a medical issue, i can no longer say that, but otehr than that i have missed basically no days. |
