The market managers come down and ask this question. My answer would be no. Now let me explain this. It is not money I am getting paid more working at wal-mart then at any other job I have ever had. Sure the insurance could be better but it wouldn't be something that would stop me from recommending someone to work at wal-mart. Benefits lets be honest at Wal_Mart you get sick pay can't be used on the first day you are sick but after that it can be used. You also get personel days. If you don't use your sick days and get up to 192 hours it then goes into personel days. Heck in one year you get one weeks vacation two years you get two weeks vacation and at seven years you get three weeks vacation. That is faster vacation time then I have ever had anywhere else.

Why then with all of that do I say no I would not recomment wal-mart to my freinds. Because my friends are hard working people who do not call in to work who do not come in late to work. My friends are responsible type people. They earn the money they are paid. My biggest thing at wal-mart is my frustration at how the people who do call in all the time who do come in late seem to get preferential treatment. Just the fact that nothing gets done to them when they continuously call in to work come in late. etc.

The one assistant said I had an attitude yeah I do towards people that call in all the time don't earn the money they are paid. It is very frustrating for those who do come in to work all the time even when they don't feel well. Hey I will gladly help out but I will not be taken advantage of by lazy good for nothing people. Respect for the individual yeah I respect everyone til they give me a reason not to. Not Wal_Mart or anyone else is going to tell me that I have to respect people who call in to work all the time who come in to work late all the time who do not do their work but stand around and talk. If Wal_Mart wants to respect those people and Wal_Mart wants to pay those people that is up to Wal_Mart but those people frustrate the heck out of those of us who do come to work every day on time and who more then earn the money you pay us.

I don't want more money Wal_Mart I want you to do something about the slackers!!!

Can't wal-mart see that is why they have trouble getting people to work at their stores can't they see that is why they have a hard time keeping hard working people at their stores?? I can see it. Heck I feel it. If I ever leave wal-mart it won't be the pay or the benefits that makes me leave it will be the way they treat good hard working people compared to the way they treat people who call in continuously don't do their work and stand around and talk.

Its almost like they are afraid that if they come down on those people they are afraid they will quit. Who cares if they leave. Maybe by getting rid of them you would get quality people to work for you.

MCM you said it all. They will never never get guality people to work for them as long as they keep treating people the way they do.  There are a few of us that enjoy out jobs but "they" make that even hard.

We have the highest turn over in the district ..we do have some dead payroll walking around that store ..just as you said they come to socialize and pick up a check every two weeks....just blows my mind as to why management can't see this....our last ASST ...told  the DM's...we had made a horriable mistake in letting management know we would do the work of two or three people..they now exspect it ..She also said that HO was on thier backs to reduce turnover ...the Asst we have now has said the same thing..we recently had to do a eval..and both agreed the person was way below a meets ..The SM would not approve a below..made us change it to a meets..
To me that just said to the person ..keep on doing whatever you want to ..

I was a 13 year associate, and had several issues that made me run just a few minutes late once in a while. The new regime at Bentonville told my SM that "I had to go" because I wasn't fully meeting their standard for "timeliness". I still go into that store, and am appalled at the people standing around, messing around, and in general, being "unproductive." So, Hell, No I would not recommend that anyone I knew and respected to go to Wal-Mart to work, because a warm body is all they want, that plays their game and is scared of them. (I love to go into that store and watch several of the managers cringe when I come in, because they know that they didn't intimidate me or scare me when they terminated me.) I know I was a productive associate, but because I wasn't "perfect" I didn't fit their mold.

You are right, the pay and the benefits are not all that bad overall....
BUT I would not recommend anyone I know to work there either. For a lot of the reasons already mentioned here. No one deserves to be treated as crappy as they do at WM. I am there because of the benefits, I dont wanna start over at another company.

It's kind of sad tho' because I know several people who work at other retail stores, and they have the same complaints about their management. I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter where you work...retail, factory etc.........if you work for a big corp. then it's pretty much crappy.

smoketony, I totally agree with you and vickie, I also echo your thoughts. One thing I was taught as a child " what you do to others and how you treat others will come back to you " , in otherwords, you treat people the way you want to be treated. This goes for individuals as well as big corporations. The way WM is treating their associates, especially the long-term ones will come back to bite them in the butt.
