Are you crazy? They would rather throw it down the dumpster than mark it down. Maybe we can have a Christmas in July sale.We use to do that. |

It drives me nuts when we try and get them to mark down stuff in our dept and they won't do it, then the market mgr walks thru and says take that crap to claims. They'd rather lose money?!?! I don't understand them somedays... BUT I'm on vacation as of 7pm tonight so for the next TWO weeks, I don't give a sh!t!! lu |

Oh boy this refrain is familiar. When I worked there were a couple of dept mgrs that got to use the mk down first then the rest might get some. I was responsible for the clearance section for a while and yep too much went to the dumpster. Don't make sense. |

I've noticed recently that when they do put stuff in clearance, when they print the garvey tag, they no longer put the original price on it. you know how it used to have the original price in small numbers on the top line and then the 'clearance' price? Guess too many people didn't think much of 'clearance' being a markdown of maybe 98 cents!!
I agree....take the intial markdown, then if it doesn't sell after a month, knock the price down to a dollar or two and get rid of it. If they would just realize how much mony they spend on wages for people to zone clearance aisles, they would see that it is costing them a bundle.
I also notice that on the grocery side they are taking huge markdowns on stuff that they have way too much of. O/ners check it out every morning and get some really great deals. I got Gv olive oil for 3.50 a bottle (25 oz. i think, reg. price around $7-9)!!! |

Redtin......
"I refuse to let it take up my shelf space..I box and bin it .."
Heard that with the new backroom program, it won't let you scan anything 'deleted' or 'clearance' into the bins......

we have stuff in jewelry that's been there for three years. Yes three years. It's so hard to get mark down money we finally just gave up asking for it. Eventually the plastic costume crap breaks(because customers either handle it too much ) and then we can claim it out. How stupid is that? |

and while Im venting LOL we get mod after mod of new plastic hideous costume junk that will NOT sell and we have NO ROOM for. They wont give us space, yet want it out! How does that work realistically? Kinda a catch 22 huh? |

I'm sure there is a logical (?!) explanation.........but here's an idea........ Between L&G busy season (which is coming to a close) and halloween/christmas why not use the L&G room for the clearance cra..i mean quality merchandise at a discount price???? Then mark what's left to zero and pitch it when we need the room........a couple months on clearance is plenty.........if it hasn't sold by then, it ain't gonna!!!!!!!!!!! |

Of course, no manager wants to take the hit and lose sales/dollars.........it might mean they won't get their bonus!! But as I've said before, if they would stop to think what it's costing us in time/rent/PR...they would realize that the way they are doing it now is not working to anyones advantage. |

(Sorry, I'm on a roll.........lol)
Or why not allow flex space in each dept. so that they can manage/care for their own clearance? I realize that some depts (toys, domestics) have huge flips twice a year, but the day in day out clearance should be the responsiblity of the dept. We have a couple that just literally dump their stuff in clearance and expect o/n's to garvey, price point, follow up and keep it zoned for them!!! Or better yet they just dump it in a cart and park it in the clearance aisle!!!!!!!!!!!
Today........I really hate my job. |

We have a lot of stuff like that in the toy department. Thankfully with Christmas toys coming in and setting up a new floor mod, we are marking a lot of stuff down, however the bins are over filled with stuff from when our super walmart was built 4 years ago. We could really use the extra room and the customers could really use the sales. I totally see what you are saying and agree 100% ~ALF~ |

You wouldn't believe all the clearance we have hanging in the back and inventory is less then three weeks away. I was told to put it in a centrl location, inventory prep it and don't worry about it. |
