Today Topped it all with parents and the toy isle. I turned around the corner of one isle and spotted a child all of 3 by himself sitting in a power wheels that a customer had pulled down ( and decided not to bye...another vent). He was by himself and no one else could be seen near him. I asked him where his mom was and he pointed. She was shopping for food and just left her adorable son to the unknown predators of the world. I thought maybe he got lost but she walks over and askes him if he was good and than asks me if i like her hair color she picked out to use...WHAT THE??? Is she that sure her child wont go with strangers or be taken? It happens everyday. This happens daily it seems. that same day a maybe 8 year old was pushing a cart with 3 children all way younger in it, they were still there after I went to the back to bin stuff and took a break. I have seen the same children atleast 3 times a week since I started, just hanging around the toys. What is with some of these people? I am not a babtsitter, and the world is not a nice place filled with flowers and sunshine all the time. ~ALF~ |

I know exactly what you're talking about bc I worked toys for over seven years and seen it all. One time a boy of about seven was misbehaving in toys, I asked him who he came to the store with and what was his name. When he told me I paged for his grandma to come to toys and get him. She came which surprised me in itself. |

oh here's a good one...little black girl maybe 3 or 4 in the bathroom doing the i gotta pee dance asks me to unsnap her shorts (HELLNO! too much risk of someone crying child molester)...ask where mom is, does she know where you are...she says yeah...thing is i walk out of the bathroom and end up talking to the chick in upc about this and there is no one to be seen at all..so where the hell is mom? about 5 minutes later she walks by with this very unconcerned look on her face (with one kid in tow and one on the way) and asks where her kid is....who the hell lets their 3 year old walk across the store to go potty and then have them ask someone to help them they don't know??? i mean i feel for the kid but i'm sorry she could pee her pants and i still won't touch her to help beyond trying to locate mom....talk about asking for trouble!!!! |

I would have never thought about helping the kid and it possibly being seen in that sort of light. How sad that in our society that's what needs to be in the front of our minds because we have such sick people and others are lawsuit happy. |

i had the experience of working in child care for so long and was acutely aware of how people act and twist things...girl i worked with in a 2year old room pulled the hand away of a 2 year old away from her mouth and ended up getting fired due to it..thing is the girl was potty training and in regular undies and pooped in her pants and had stuck her hand in it while the girl was changing another kid and i was talking to a parent and she saw her going to stick her hand full of crap in her mouth and pulled her hand away and said no in a firm manner (not yelling) the parent i was talking to saw it and thought it constituted abuse and went to dcf..she got fired instantly, parent sued her....i'm sorry but if my kid was doing that i'd expect the same type of behavior out of an adult....what was she supposed to do let her eat it?
yeah it is a sad state where before you do something helpful you have to think of such things...there are good samaritan laws that cover you if you administer cpr or first aid in good faith and something goes wrong, but nothing in such a circumstance...and then you gotta realize there are people who will set up situations like that in the hope to sue |

It's funny that you say this, because while working
in security at the resort, the maintenance guys left at 3, and getting them to
come back out was a pain in the a**. So, as a consequence, if one of the units
had something relatively minor, such as a plugged toilet, that with a little
plunger action could make "go away", we'd go to the unit and handle it.
This was all well and good until the day a "renter" (read as week-long "guest".
). called and raised hell about a plugged toilet. I grabbed my good friend, Mr.
Plunger and responded posthaste to the unit, only to discover that immediately
after giving us hell about the toilet in their unit, every adult in that unit
left to go to dinner, and I discovered to my chagrin that I was surrounded by
eight teen-age girls from 12-17 years old, all in their swim suits. I "fixed"
their toilet, and ran like hell out of there. With the crap that goes on
nowadays, I kept expecting somebody to blame me for something happening to one
of their little darlings, with nobody to back ME up. I haven't done a
maintenance job since. the SOBs can wait until Maintenance comes in in the
morning.
