...maybe you have a quick fix for me?  I overstretched my lower back...and this weekend was pretty much agony.  Sunday I got out and about, and the walking actually was helpful, but today teaching...I thought I was going to die by the end of the day.

How do I fix it???

Try getting into a push up position. When you go down in the push up, stretch your body as far forward as possible, and gently touch your nose to the floor, maintaining the body rigid and straight. Do that several times.

Lying with your back on the floor, raise your legs vertical, and ask your husband, or son, to provide resistance. While they do, with your legs straight, and keeping your butt nailed to the floor, lower your legs absolutely straight, until your heels can drop to the floor without injury. Repeat that several times. The resistance must be gentle, and not stronger than you, so your legs must procede down to the floor, pushing against that resistance.

These exercises are designed to separate and flex the vertebra articulations in the lower back, where nerves that often cause the pain may be "caught" between bone articulations, pinched, and producing that wonderful (not) pain.

You should feel some immediate relief from those exercises, but take it easy afterward, so the tissues can adjust and return to normal.

Let me know how this helps.

If you aren't able to do the exercises, like you're in class, try squeezing your glutes together really hard, and try and "crack" or pop your tailbone. Aligning that articulation, (the "pop" actually comes from release of trapped carbon dioxide gas in the joint) will stretch a few of the vertebra above the pelvic articulation, and provide some instant, although temporary relief.

If this pain persists, see your physician.

Carbon dioxide trapped in my spine? Cool... not!

It gets trapped in most bone joint articulations, and is why knuckles crack.

Pikes...you're amazing...you're a walking encyclopedia!!!

I think, though, I now have a broken nose.  rofl...I'm home by myself for a while, so I'll have to try those other exercises a bit rigged...

Thanks Doc!!!

You're welcome.

On those lower back stretches while lying on your back, legs straight and vertical, have your husband or son push hard enough at first, so you can't lower your straight legs. Then, ask them to lessen the resistance a little so you can actually lower your legs. Keep them straight, and rigid. (Your legs, not your men!)

Of course, you wouldn't want your men to be crooked and loose. Neocons just aren't any fun.
