Am I the only person around that got severely paranoid when I learned that the signature line on our checks (the ones we write to pay our bills) is not actually a line, but micro-printing? The other lines, the ones for date, pay to, pay amount, and memo - are actual lines, but the signature "line" isn't really a line, but micro-printing so tiny I couldn't read it with my magnifying glass. I got paranoid thinking that a check is a form of a contract, right? And I couldn't read the "fine print" I was signing!!!! I tried scanning it (now that my stupid scanner is working on occasion,) and enlarging the image in Photo Shop, but the background pattern prevents clear observation. So, before I tell you what it says, I'll let ya'll have a go at it..... |

The "fine print" of micro-printing of the signature line on most checks reads "Authorized Signature". Apparently, it's a security device like those included in currency..... I'm surprised that I'm not the only one left in the dark about this.... For some reason, I thought I was the last on the Planet to learn this "secret." |

Gee, I'm glad that's all it said. You were giving me Faustian nightmares here of unwitting pacts made with Mr. Scratch! |

Oh good. Now we can forge more authentic looking cheques. Thanks Gryphon. When I sent mine cheque to the gas company, I still write it out to Politburo Natural Gas (Peoples). They never squawk, and cash them, thus verifying for me, their old Soviet tendency. |
