4-year-old shoots, wounds teen ---------------
JACKSON, Ohio - The father of a 4-year-old boy who shot
and wounded a teen with a shotgun said he removed firearms
from his Ohio home following the incident. The boy,
apparently angry at 17-year-old Nathan Beavers, loaded a
shotgun and fired it at the youth, spraying pellets in
his arm and leg, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported
Tuesday. Beavers is recovering at Ohio State University
Medical Center in Columbus. The boy is in the custody of
his parents "until we see what the prosecutor wants to
do," Jackson County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jim Ephlin
said. Prosecutor Jonathan Blanton said the shooting had a
"weird, weird set of facts," adding he doubted the 4-year-
old would end up in the juvenile justice system over the
Sunday incident at the 4-year-old's grandmother's home
near Jackson, Ohio. The boy's father said counseling was
being arranged for his son, adding he was shocked his son
knew how to load and fire the shotgun. The boy has watched
others shoot but wasn't taught how to handle a gun, the
parent told the Dispatch. "It was an accident. He just
thought it was another toy gun," the father said. "He
didn't appreciate what it could do." "The guns are gone
out of our house," he added. "They're not going to be
around with the kids anymore. It's not worth it."
I posted this because I wanted parents and friends of people with kids to know if you have a gun in your home be it whatever that gun needs to be locked up and ammunition stored separatly in case a child gets hold of that gun then the ammuniton is not where that cjild can load one .
This father didnt know his son knew how to load a gun let alone handle it? Well sad to say we provided that information to that child with the choices we give them watching TV shoot um ups and I satnd guilty after this though my guns and ammunition are locked I will remove the ammunition and store it where that child cannot find it..
EXAMPLE : a grown child mind sometimes can do this..........
I have my guns locked even away from Lowell he wanted to clean one before I locked it up ,had one bullet in the chamber he removied the rounds didnt check the chamber and shot my brick on th fireplace at the back of the room I am in now if it had been three inches over he would have accidently shot me so I got locks from the police dept where I live and I locked every gun with a cable lock they gave me (shotguns and rifles ) the hand guns had the sufficient locks for them ...yes I have a small arsenal here also all locked in gun cases built-in to the side of my fireplace .
a cable running through every trigger of those guns also..he was a gun collector and I purchase alot of them for him on christmas's and yes I could sell them but they are secure I can assure you that.the cables are also hitched to a hook built into the brick on either side on the inside of the case .I had to child proof my home when he came home .I took some of them to my sons house and made sure they had gun locks since he has a 7 year old son back when he nearly shot me that gun was a 45 mag had he shot me through that sheet rock on the wall a small distance past that wall of brick he shot I would not be here .
That bullet puts a large hole in you on exit ,my head would have been in line of that bullet through the wall I thank God it was me as I was sitting right here.Terrified to death I went in there thought he had shot himself and he sat with that gun in his hand I took it away from him ,he was stunned ,shocked ,shaken.
Accidents happen we need to prevent the risks ...love you guys take care and take caution its not one of our kids with a gun and or granchild...love you children lprotect them ,lockup your guns ,hiding them is not enough, they find them..
