I can't tell you how elated I felt after Obama grabbed the election last night and when I heard him speak the tears rolled down my face as the man spoke with such spirit as if he was a speaker of the Gods! The energy was absolutely magnificent! The breakthrough for the American people, for a race of people so deprived and oppressed to see a black man win the highest office of the land, and for humanity!
I went to work this morning to an Army base that was filled with hatred, bitterness, and anger. Talk of white supremacy taking Obama "out" before he even takes office was in circulation. Mind you, no was taking any plan of action, only speculating but it was hate talk none the less. Applause of denying gay marriage in California and in Arizona as if it is them, against us. I really couldn't believe the presence of many people that I am forced to work with and to be in the presence of their energy was absolutely hideous! These people are absolutely disgusting and I am really at a loss of words.
I feel deeply saddened for our brothers and sisters who have eloped in California, spent possibly their life savings to wed and now are facing uncertainty of validation and perhaps a nullification of their marriage Minorities have taken to the streets in defiant demonstration for much less so I am glad that we are level headed enough not to (so far) lose it; however, I wouldn't be surprised if the beginning of a revolution is not being spawned. AND I will support it's well orchestrated construction as long as it does not disturb peace and is done within the confines of the law. (One must state a disclaimer these days)
I am very thankful that Obama won the presidency with a landslide. I am heartbroken for the hatred and the horrific words I heard spoken at my workplace today. In fact, I don't know that I can continue to work amongst such bigotry forever. I am saddened that California has been caught up in this give and take back legislative/judicial battle for quite some time now. Arizona just passed another amendment to our state constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage when marriage has already been defined as between a man and a woman. How sad that the public feels they have to "stick it to us" at every opportunity of course at the expense of the taxpayer.
Oh well, progress has been made with the election of Obama. More work is ahead of us for turning simple "tolerance" to "acceptance". In my world "tolerance" does not mean diddly squat! I want our community to be accepted! I will stand for acceptance until we have it.
