You’ve walked away before
So do it again,
But this time don’t turn back.
Retrace those footsteps that you walked so long ago,
The path you took to leave my life behind,
And be with those who meant so much more
Than I ever could.
Don’t look over your shoulder
To catch a glimpse of what might have been,
It’s too late now.
That’s all just a memory of tomorrow,
A memory that will fade
Like the light of the dying sun.
Hold those tears inside,
Crystals are too precious to be wasted
On a priceless rewrite of the past.
Time can not erase a script that will never change.
So draw back the curtain and let us see that scene once more,
The turning point in a child’s life
That left the centre stage silent and empty.
See her heart shrivel up yet again,
Like the petals of a wilted rose,
But carry on acting the part
And fulfil that staring role,
As you did in a moment
That has never been forgotten.
Your footprints will be embedded into the sand,
As you disappear into the distance.
Only this time, that child will not try and follow
The invisible road,
That always led to nowhere.
Retrace those footsteps that you walked so long ago,
Retake the path you took to leave my life behind.
Walk away as you have done before,
But leave me here, and don’t turn back.
