My Last Christmas As A Boy
by Don Tyson

It was Christmas day.
I was twelve, soon to be thirteen.
It was wonderful.
I got the cowboy suit that I wanted.
Outside it was sunny and bright,
So I was out in my glory,
Complete with cap guns
Strapped down to my legs.
I was Roy, and Gene, And Hoppy all in one
As I chased my brother and hid
Between the stoops of the row houses
All the way down the block and back.
It was all I had dreamed about for months.
Times were tough, but Santa (Mom)
Was faithful to grant my wish.
As I played I realized
That things would soon change.
I was to enter my teens and
Boyhood had to end with my birthday.
It did and so did our life as we knew it.
But I will always cherish
The memory of that day.
The good cowboys won all the battles
On my last Christmas as a boy.

Hopalong Cassidy was my hero, Don.

Someone recently told me that men have 4 stages of life:
1. You believe in Father Christmas.
2. You don't believe in Father Christmas.
3. You pretend to be Father Christmas.
4. You look like Father Christmas.

You'll never guess which stage I've reached.
