Confidence ebbs and flows
washes away what once had been
bares an effigy in waxwork,
an image of self doubt.
A pale shaded. washed personality
with a head full of rebukes,
patch works a smile
fixes it with feel sorry glue.
She pretends to be invisible
heaves a that will do sigh,
wears a mantle patterned
with diffidence, tears holes
for peeping through.
Out of joint, requiring adjustment
this woman, a stranger to herself,
gags on the significance
extracts the essence
of uncertainty.
