She flew into my mind
one bleak Monday morning;
made herself at home,
(the way cuckoos do),
feathered her nest
from my words, cucking gently,
as she bled me dry.
Her egg hatched,
in shards of black obsidian,
shattering my fledgling thoughts
into kaleidoscope fragments.
Already, the chick has ousted
a sonnet and a villanelle;
I am speechless.

Hi Ann,

This is great - really enjoyed - I think a cuckoo has been stealing my inspiration lately lol.

This one got me Ann.....I love the poem but couldn't make up my mind if it's an analogy or an allegory......still...enjoyed it very much.

Well l'bill, apart from the fact that I am a little bit cuckoo, I did write it as an allegorical poem...but I'm sure you knew that anyway!! Ask me the truth, I'll tell 'e a lie....Ann

From what I've seen, Emma, no-one ever steals your inspiration. You're a fount of poetic prowess. Ann

Hi Ann,

mildly confusing but ever-so-intriguing at the same time... I was a little lost towards the end, but the 'I am speechless' made me (as a reader) smile.

Hi Katy, well I'm oviously not doing my job as a poet, then!!
Cuckoos invade nests, steal eggs, etc. Cuckoo invades my mind, steals ideas (not of very high quality, I admit)...I did think of writing 'I am cuckoo', but speechless seemed better, certainly with the insight of writer's block! Ann

Hints of 'plagerism' Ann???

Loved the metaphoric use of the cuckoo and it's habits in your words and have enjoyed reading this thread generally, Ann, nice work, Zy

woooops..plagerism? If I'm plagerising, tell me who? I'm not aware of plagerising anybody, but I need to know if I am... Ann
