What will become of our children when

As pawns, they're played on the board,

Are International employers

The best we now can ... afford?

A crumbling infra-structure

With services much in decline,

So much, has gone overseas that

There's less and less  to call mine.

Will our children live on as puppets

Dancing to outsiders strings,

With names we know, only facads?

For that's what 'selling off' brings.

What's happening to all our assets

Does nobody here give a damn,

Where's the pride in "I'm British"?

If, that's the last thing.....I am!

Inspiration came from an article which lists how many of our 'home grown' companies and services have been/are being 'sold off' overseas,

It is quite amazing just how many banks, services and high street companies are no longer owned by their implied (British) company name.

Who will the British end up working for and who will be pulling the strings for the future of Britain and to how far afield will the profits go?

Hello, Fellow Soapbox Speaker, lol, honestly Peter, we ARE going to be able to move permanently to Sth of France by next summer, but that doesn't stop me being so angry that all that I leave behind won't be what it ought to be....British!!!

My hubby's company, Good old John Brown/Trafalgar House is now a Norwegian Design House but is about to become a company from Hong Kong.

Pilkington, founded in 1862...ownership gone abroad
02 telecoms...........................Spain
Orange..................................France telecom
P&O.....................................ownership gone abroad
Abbey National.....................Spain
Transport Giants 'Exel'...........Deutsche Post
and so many more have and are about to be sold off......to Japan, France, Spain and America, to name a few. All control lost!

It seems we don't care if we loose prestige in the world markets of the future as long as we get the money in now. Shortsightedness will have such a knock-on effect when the new generations find there is nothing here in Britain but a lot of known name faciers with foreign telephone numbers and call centers behind them.

This poem needs polished for Emma's challenge tomorrow, but I just bashed it out in temper, lol, we agree so much on how and when the damage started, but I bet neither of us realised just how far it would and and how much further, it may go, Thanks for your comment, Peter, lol, Zy x

Really, Peter? I would have thought that if Britain keeps on selling companies to overseas holdings, we shall have lost all clout for working conditions, salaries, and most importantly, a voice in anything which may need attention and decision making.

Why should the parent company abroad give a hoot about personel when their 'home' choices will be so depleted. Gone are the days of knocking on a door and asking for a rise. America has it's problems, but I don't think they hinge on the corporate selling abroad of their major companies and employment? lol, Zy x

Quite a political statement I think Zy, and I agree with your sentiments, with so many jobs here being sacrificed in favour of cheap labour elsewhere.
A good poem.
